Should we lose CLM, we need to look for a very, very good coach who will think this is the last place he would want to work. With the program we have built we should have top quality coaches waiting to come to work here. We need a "LSU guy", not just someone who is waiting for their dream job like Saban or Miles.

Okay, okay...since you called me out. I am here to officially announce that I, LSU_Mackey, will be taking the Head Coaching job at Louisiana State University. I am, in fact, an "LSU guy" and won't leave for Michigan, the Dolphins, or Alabama.

My contract is short and sweet...$5,000,000. I promise I will be the best darned "LSU guy" I can be.

I'll make you proud and even wear "the hat." :miles:

Every school wants somebody like this. Practically no one gets one. Coaches come and go, usually they have to be fired, often they move along. It's not that big of a deal. LSU can get the best coaches available . . . and sometimes even when they ain't available.

I mean how many LSU grads are out there coaching in college or the NFL? Pete Mangurian? Terry Robiskie? Who?

Yeah, that philosophy worked well for Alabama....how about Dubose and Shula. Why not have the philosophy to find the best candidate you can regardless of where he went to school. Just because a coach went to LSU and loves the University more than a coach who didn't play here doesn't make our program better or stronger....Would you rather have a less talented coach who went to LSU and would never want to leave or a top 5 coach who may or may not leave 5 years down the line? Once again, look at what that mind set has done to Bama, it set them back several years.

I guess he wants Eddie Fuller to be head coach.

No really, I know what he means by an "LSU guy" but Red is right, coaches come and go.....some go not wanting to go like DiNardo. But I liken the Miles situation to all the talk about Sweaty Gerry going to Notre Dame. Let everything play out and let's not jump the gun. IMO, Michigan is going to be very choosy with who they hire and Miles may not be "the guy" that even he may think he is.

Just hire the best guy available and go win some ball games.

I totally agree with your philosophy. Bama finally got the kind of coach who is capable of establishing a winning program by going out-of-house. The one time that I can recall LSU went in-house was when it hired Stovall. That did not turn out so well.
