Noticed LSU started mixing up the run attack from running down the gut to going to the sides making the heavier BAMA lnebackers suck wind. That seems to make sense strategically.
I agree that Ford and the outside runs were much more effective than Ware's inside attempts (as a whole). But I believe we have to give credit to Bama's defense. They were as tough as advertised, as was our defense. There is still Alabama and LSU--and a big drop off to everyone else. I think our offense did what it could, and this game is in no way an indication of how our offense will finish off the season. JL will still start; JJ will still play. RR will catch more TD passes. You get the picture. Last night was an anomaly, caused by a vicious defense. Both of our offenses were averaging 39 or so points a game, and both teams will be back to that in short order. This game was a classic. Les Miles stayed cool; Saban panicked when he should've punted on all those FG attempts that were missed.
We did try to pass a number of times, but the Bama D is really really good. They pressured the QB AND covered everyone. JJ was definitely the better choice for this game and it was apparent even before the picks. The picks that JL threw were because the D was so much better than what we had played in the past. JL has thrown PLENTY of interceptable balls this season that DBs have dropped or were late to make the play on. That won't fly against Bama and it didn't. He had very little time in the pocket (which is not as big a problem with JJ) and the receivers were covered (again JJ picked up some positive yards). This game shows what I have believed all along that JJ is a better option in big SEC battles like this one. When there is a dominating D, you have to scramble and get positive yards. Having the threat of the QB running keeps the LBs at home. I thought JJ did a great job of zipping it in there when it was there and tucking and running when it wasn't. That was what was called for in this game. Herbie said that JJ just zips through and then tucks it like it is a bad thing. Sorry, in this game, that is what you have to do. The question is will he be effective enough against Oky State or Stunford (or would he have been against Oregon or WVU)? I dunno. I sure would like to see JL get his confidence back and the pair of them lead us to a 45-38 victory over Arky.
