Why are people complaining about the playcalling?

IMO thats why we won the game. We tried to be aggressive with our better QB and he threw 2 picks. This was a defensive game, and everyone knew that coming into the game. We had an advantage in special teams.

Both defenses were waiting on the other offense to make a mistake so they can capitalize.

Nick Saban wanted to be aggressive with his play calling, and called a pass out of the wildcat and what happened? Our defense capitalized.

Les Miles out coached Nick Saban period, and as fans we can question the play calling all you want, maybe hindsight is 20/20 but it put us in a position to win rather then to lose. Our defense was playing excellent, why put them in a bad position. Nick Saban did just that by keeping a gimpy playmaker on the field, and costing his team 72 yards.

So play aggressive and lose in a blaze of glory or go conservative and try not to lose the game and get a W?

And I think its less play calling but more execution, and GREAT defense, you have to give bama some credit

It's hard to judge. We got the win and that's all that matters. And a lot of choices we made kept us in the game (like the conservative 3 runs and a punt of 72 yards by Wing).

But having Ford with only 11 carries is a head scratcher that even you have to acknowledge.

Putting Lee back in the game to throw a 2nd pick was another. And that isn't hindsight on my part, I was complaining about it before he took the snap on that play.

I'm just happy to win, but I thought the play calling was very predictable; especially for having a week off. I thought we'd see a couple of new plays. I also thought we ran when we should have thrown it, like on the goal line, right before the half. All in all, very very minor criticisms. We beat Bama in T-town, so who freakin cares about playcalling?

I disagree with putting Lee back in. I k new Jefferson would be a difference and key in this game, and he was, but I thought that we should have seen Lee again after the first half pick. We did, and he immediately got picked again, almost a pick-6. I think everyone in my house knew at that point that he was done for the night - and he was. C'est la vie.

It seemed like hitting the corners on the runs were working. Trying to go up the middle over and over on bama's D had me scratching my head.

But we won, so it doesn't matter.

So you thought it was a terrific idea they put Lee back in after sitting for several series?

I thought he deserved a shot to come back in, in the 2nd half. The immediate near pick 6 would suggest that maybe I was wrong, but I think it was a good idea to bring him back in and it was a good idea not to after the 2nd pick.

After Lee's first INT we called a long pass which was also picked off.

When Bama's QB threw his first INT they called a short pass to get him back on track.

Lee had to wait two series to get back on the field.

Bama's QB was back on their next series.

That's what I didn't like about the rotation decision. The coaches surely didn't do Lee any favors with their decision making.

Our defense can/will win games but we need Lee back to have any kind of a passing game. We wouldn't be 9-0 without having Lee as the starter this season.

With JJ in the game we're predictable especially in the red zone. When we started at the Bama 15 yard line I really wanted a TD but we couldn't go more than a few yards as Bama knew exactly what was coming.

Fortunately we didn't need any additional points so you can't argue with the results. Defense and Special Teams won this game for us. Even against a great defense I hoped we could move the chains a few more times.

My only concern with play calling is the upcoming game with Arkansas. If we revert to last year's play calling and primarily use JJ....then we'll probably end up with a "L" again. I hope we use all our weapons and not try to win 9-6 against the remainder of our schedule. I'll take a few more blowouts because my poor heart can't handle another OT game.

I am sorry to say but Lee had the "deer in the headlights" look after his first pass when he got nailed right after he delivered it. He is one of the bravest players I have seen sticking things out and fighting through the last 4 years but sometimes on can't overcome physical reactions. Lee is fine when when he has time and/or can take an occasional hit. But that first hit was a warning and his automatic "fight or flight" flight instincts took over. He tried and hats off to him but he was not in control.
That being said I would start him next week and throw till he feels good again. We need him and JJ.

    THIS!!

This is what I didn't like about our play calling. We did not take advantage of short routes to losen up the defense.

I've harped on it for two weeks .... and it was a beautiful play ... everytime it was tried ... Halfback slpping into the flats for the screen.

Why oh why can't our offense run a play like that?? IMO it has so much more potential that the WR sreen where the CBS and Safeties are already at the line.

Anyway ... IMO, this game was a huge let down. I don't think LSU played as great as the score appears. D did a fantastic job when it counted, but the offense was just flat. We didn't stick to our template. First play, Ware up the middle for 5 yards ..... and then immediately, we abandoned that strategy, and starting go outside takcle, sweeps, etc.

I'll have to say, when it comes to the outside running game, you need JJ in the game, and Ford at the RB position. Any way . starting to ramble .. time for coffee.
