I am not concerned about the QB change at all for one simple reason: Jarrett Lee is the better QB in the team comparing to Jordan Jefferson, and he will make all other skilled players surrounding him perform better. JJ is physically gifted and of course sometimes he can run out of pocket and scramble for some yards. Yet, his mobility only makes him statistically look better when it comes to running yards while his teammates don't benefit from his performance, which could frustrate our WRs who are waiting for his PASS! You can argue that JJ has probably made some progresses this off-season in throwing the ball, yet it remains to be seen on the field considering his consistent inconsistency. On the other hand, JL's always had a higher completion rate than JJ and he obviously reads the defense better. I wouldn't rule out JJ as our weapon if he can play at the end of the day, but JL is no doubt the answer for our passing game.
I'm excited about the real passing threat that JL brings to the field. I always felt that the real passing threat was more advantageous than the run threat that JJ brought. Obviously Miles liked JJ better for his ball control, run oriented system, but he was really so inept at the pass, and mediocre at QBing in general, that i would have invested more time in JL to produce/nurture that real passing threat.
Lee still has poor mechanics. I re-watched a bunch of games this week, and even though he looks better than his INT machine in '08, he is still raw. He doesn't lean into throws. If he has a defender coming at him, he will throw while falling back and turning. I am very interested to see which Lee comes to play Saturday: 2008 Lee (fearless TD and INT throwing machine), 2010 Florida Lee (passive, but efficient), or 2010 Bama Lee (passive, inaccurate, except for 1 pass). Hopefully Krag has created a 4th version of Lee that is magnificent.
I was worried with JJ going into the season and I am slightly more worried with JL. They were both VERY inconsistent as Juniors and in my opinion have shown very little in the way of improvement over their three year careers. I am a sunshine pumper with respect to LSU except when it comes to our current QBs. Not much sunshine to pump. The only optimistic slant that I can hang on is that Crow is gone and maybe better coaching could help. But they sure stunk in the Spring game. I just hope that JL fixes his footwork.
At least mett wasn't ruined by the crow. Mett knows how to chunk the rock. He needs to learn how to read complex defenses and the playbook. He is the future. I hope he is everthing the tiger nation has hoped and prayed for. I am ready for this season. Next year I will need to hit my doctor up for valum or Xanax to control the anticipation.
Don't be so sure...there was an article a few weeks ago talking about how well JJ and JL were communicating...specifically pointing to how JJ was helping JL improve his pitch on the option... I don't think that frucker is going anywhere anytime soon... Nothing wrong with having option plays. Just don't run them to see if they'll work. You run the option when you KNOW it will work.
