Why all the leg humping for Jarrett Lee?

No, but one day I'll tackle it. I love the sound of a pedal steel. It's actually easier in some ways because you have less bar movement. I'm working on Dobro next.

All of the above may be true and he may be the best we have, but he didn't get the job done in pass defense last year and it doesn't appear he will get it done this year. I thought with the emergence of Chad Jones that McCray's days hurting us in pass coverage would be over, but I guess I was wrong. They are using him as a DB in man coverage and there is no way he can handle it. It isn't a matter of experience either, he just doesn't have the hips, change of direction, or enough flat out speed to cover WR's. Chad Jones does, Peterson does--he just needs to gain experience. You need a true corner in that spot or an exceptional safety like Jones, not a tweener LB-safety, like McCray.

KTeam, I think the big problem people had with your comments was the negative manner in which they were presented.

I, for one, am pleasantly surprised by the turnaround/maturation of Jarrett Lee last night. Remember, ALL that this team needs at QB is someone who can deliver the ball to the real playmakers. That's it.

Hatch doesn't look like he can do that as well as Lee.

But you also need a QB that doesn't make huge mistakes that result in disaster. I heard Arkansas' Dick has been looking really good in Petrino's offense during their first few games, so I was excited about getting to see him play Alabama yesterday. Petrino's offense was looking great, driving on Alabama at will, and then Dick makes one little tiny mental mistake and WHAM -- immediate six points for Alabama and Arkansas has to start their whole drive over. It happened more than once. That's some scary stuff having a QB liable to making those mistakes. When I saw Lee do the same thing last night, that scared the crap out of me as well. Sure, he bounced back great, played like a superstar for the rest of the game, but that scary little mental mistake is still in my memory as well.

the ball to lafell was the best ball lee threw all night. down, low and away from the defender. he put it where only the WR cou'd have gotten it.

my jury is still out on lee, i'd like a more mobile QB in this system but you can't understate the redemption factor for lee and the turnaround he made and the environment he made it in. it took an entire half to make up for one play and he came through and executed the calls perfectly. i still kinda wonder why everyone thinks we HAVE to have one starter. i think hatch and lee compliment each other very well. both QB's will get better as the season goes on. i'm not one anyone's jock, but lee showed me he had more than i thought he had and that's a good thing. also AU is going to be one of the better defense's we face all year.

on a related note, it only took rahem alem one play to redeem one bad play. without 2nd and 25 who knows how the game woulda ended?

i won't say anything too bad about mcCray other than coverage is not his strong suit. he really struggled.

all in all i feel pretty good about the D. they gave up only two TD's on the road and made stops at crucial times.

this team defintely has some weak spots but last night's game was nothing but positive because we got scoreboard.

    oh and btw

scott + quinn johnson + our O line = studs

    :milesmic: = da man.

the halfback pass, the onsides kick, throwing on the final drive while most coaches (including me if i was one) woulda run scott three times and kicked the FG (if it woulda went through).

tubby's one of the best big game coaches around, it doesn't take a student of football to tell you that miles out coached tubby in his own house, badly.

i'm still high from this win.

My sentiments exactly. We didn't look perfect. However, our defense was OUTSTANDING. And remember........7 of those points were given to Auburn by a errant throw and interception. Lee deserves the criticism for his first half play and the cudos for his comeback in the second half.
I now believe we have what it takes to make it through the season really, really well. My only worry is Florida, they have a VERY good team. But,,,,,I do believe we can beat them. With the calls from the coaching staff last night, I REALLY feel good about our chances. I'm looking forward to LSU/USC at the end of the year........................THAT'S my dream.

Why would anyone take issue with a fanbase praising their young qb for leading their team to a comeback win in a hostile environment?

Like Flynn did at times last year?
    Or JaMarcus the year before?
    Or Randall?
    Or Mauck?

Hell, Brett Favre, Joe Montana, John Elway, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, etc. etc. etc. all make mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes are HUGE and cost their teams wins. It happens. I dam sure ain't gonna bash a guy playing his first minutes ever in SC play for making a mistake (as long as he doesn't make a habit of it).

Sure seem to be some lofty expectations for a redshirt freshman, playing in his first road game, at top 10 Auburn's house. You would think we lost the game or that Lee came in and managed not to lose.

Watch the replay guys. Lee won the game last night.

Everything else contributed but it was his QB play in the 2nd 1/2 that won it for us. Just as Russell, Mauck, and Flynn did for us so many times. However, those three guys never did it at Auburn. Criticism is fair, but put it all in context.

And then just try to enjoy the victory.
