He performed fairly well after half time, but any performance would have looked better then his first half. I was still unimpressed with the entire performance as a whole, and think that Jefferson has a good chance of stealing the starting roll in the coming seasons. Let me say now, that I hope Jarrett Lee turns into a great QB at LSU and last night was a nice result, and shows that he is maturing; still I feel that the QB position needs a lot more work at this point. I will also add that our secondary looks mediocre as well. Danny McCray had an awful day, against an equally awful QB (Todd), who was even less impressive then Lee. When we face a good QB down the road, we better hope that our secondary has improved, because last night just about any top 20 QB could have torched us for 300 plus yards.
I think all of the "leg humping" is stemming from his ability to bounce back in the 2nd half. He went from a deer in the headlights in the first half to a confident leader in the 2nd. He made some great throws, great decisions and executed Gary Crowton's game plan perfectly. No one here is saying that he should win the Heisman, but they are giving credit where credit is due....and rightly so. Personally, I would like to see Crowton get more credit than he's been getting, but that's jmho.
I agree that Crowton should get a lot more credit. But I think his vanilla first half play calling stemmed from not trusting either QB. Once Jarrett took on the blitz and showed he could complete a pass over the middle under pressure (the pass to Dickson). He started opening the playbook more and more. This thread is by no means slamming Lee and his transformation. I simply am still not thrilled about the QB position, especially with Bama looking like a fairly decent upcoming opponent as well as great Defenses like UGA and USC still on the schedule. But we shall see. Geaux Tigers.
I have been thinking every team has been thinking of picking on and exploiting McDray since last season. Hope the DC figure out a way to cut that out. The trust from the coaches allowed the gutsy final TD toss call to Lafell. Sure, the QB's are still work in progress.
:geaux::crystal::helmet: Totally agree. Lee could have easily went in the tank after that dismal start. Instead, he showed a lot of character, poise, leadership, etc. to lead LSU to a crucial victory. He showed there's more to him than meets the eye and showed he can handle adversity. Does this performance mean he's the starter the rest of the season? Maybe, maybe not. One performance does not a season make, but Lee certainly showed he is made of some pretty stern stuff and I feel a lot better about the QB after this game than I did before. He really grew up a lot in this game. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
You are a pessimist and that's OK. You watch Bama against horrible competition and suddenly fear them. You watch LSU against formidable competion and suddenly fear for us. Takes al kinds...
Sabanfan, you really ARE the voice of reason. Some folks just enjoy looking at the down side of things. Remember what A. Lincoln said, " Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Lee is not a proven commodity for sure. But I like the way he came back after a big time mistake. Lee still has to prove his decision making is sound. He seems to have the strong arm QB mentality (Favre, Russel). While his arm is not as strong as the above mentioned QB's, he thinks he has the arm to throw into a tight spot. I did see improvement as for as not telegraphing his passes like he showed in earlier games. That comes whith confidence and game experience. It all makes for one hell of a ride over the course of a season. Maybe similar to last year?:geauxtige
