I just returned from the hometown, Houston, and my wife and I were discussing this issue while there. The aggies have always had the chip on their shoulder, but Texas has blown up on the jackass stage almost overnight. Maybe it was their behavior over Perriloux, the Rose Bowl, or their sudden runs in Omaha, but Texas fans are out of control. Recruiting doesn't stop for Mac brown on a verbal from another school, why should it be just a one way issue? A Rose Bowl win and Texas fans are hot that LSU fans are talking about being there, too. Yo, Bevo, why don't you shoot for something Mac hasn't done, like winning a conference title...any conference will do. Baseball... 6 titles in 30-something appearances. Smoke's catching hell for going Oh-and-two. My figuring allows us about 15 more dry runs to match UT's records. Now, the soapbox... I grew in Texas, graduated from an HISD high school (Lamar) in the mid 70's. The University of Texas took EVERY accredited Texas high school gradute who applied, lousy students had to attend summer school. Texas had a "closed college" (Plan II), but anyone and everyone could go. Same story for College Station, except post-Vietnam, ended ROTC for males. a$m grew in the 80's. Both schools pale to Rice, SMU, Austin College, and Baylor. Voted for the aggies based on longevity of being jerks, but Texas, like everything they're doing, is making a nice neveau run!
Make sure that bastid ain't looking back at you when he says those words. *okie slapping greenie around house* Tough call on the poll. Queers...or steers. At least the horns have won something but those "yell leaders" are hard to swallow- or maybe I should say stomach.
Re-reading this thread didn't change my mind on Aggies or Horns, but it did remind me what a pompous @$$ scrappy is/was.
steers or queers, indeed! and dont say swallow where an atm yell leader can hear you. they'll be all over you like white on rice. when we were in omaha in 05, known in our house as "the tulane year" (since there has only been one!), we were in the right field bleachers and some texas coeds had on short shorts with "slut" written across the ass. it made the "long whores" seem quite appropriate. i was laughing at greenie the way his eyes were bugging out over that. :hihi:
I live in the west side of Houston, two of my daughters attended UT, I work in down town Houston with lots of both. Observations UT sees themselves as much more than they really are. It is a good academic school but it’s not even the best in Texas. And it has a good football tradition but not even the best in its conference. They see themselves as the creme de la creme in both areas and know that anyone who doesn't see them that way is uninformed. In word, they define arrogance. They are the perfect example of the caricature of a Texan. Austin is very proud of being different; their motto is ‘Keep Austin weird”. But they try to hard at it and it seems faked rather than their normal state. New Orleans on the other hand is different because – well it just is. TAMU sees themselves as just as good as UT but believe there is a world conspiracy to keep the word from getting out. Their academic statistics really are much closer to UT than is generally accepted - and it pisses them off that nobody knows. They are defined by the chip on their shoulder from being considered 2nd to UT in everything. They are super sensitive and it makes them easy and fun to pick on. They want the world to know they aren't intimidated by UT but they don't even believe it themselves. They have developed traditions that makes rolling Toomers Corner every time the eagle farts seem normal. LSUs resurgence in the last decade has coincided with TAMUs decline. Mike Sherman’s seat was hotter than CLMs at the beginning of last year. Geographically they are book ended by three major programs; UT, OK, and LSU making recruiting difficult. I think the LSU/TAMU rivalry could become intense immediately. They will want to prove themselves to dump the largest insecurity complex in sports. I can tell you this; I wanted the Cotton Bowl last year more than I wanted any regular season game. The most beautiful sound in the world is when 20 obnoxious loudmouths have nothing to say. I say bring em on. I want to enjoy kicking their ass again. As to the thread topic; it's like asking what's worse cancer or AIDS. But I guess male cheerleaders swing the vote; Aggies are worse.
Aggie fans are pretty annoying but they are faithful, which I respect. Longhorn fans, only break their t-shirts out when the team is truly great, I have witnessed this over the last year when EVERY Longhorn fan I know, went back underneath their rock and could truly care less about college football right now. But they will be back and say they never left the scene once the horn have a shot at another title.
