Well they obviously don't get the best 64 teams because they allow for teams that win their conference tournament such as Texas Southern. None of those questionable teams would have been selected in the old 48 team field which I preferred over the new format. As a judge, I wouldn't give credit to a team based on the fact they won the last two national titles. I just don't think that has any bearing on this year's team. With that in mind, I would have to base my decision on record and RPI. Oregon State had a .500 record against regional teams but they only had a slightly better than .500 record against non-regional teams. I think that's what really hurt them.
It also happens with regional site determinations. Several years ago, Tulane & LSU both earned the right to host a super regional. Instead they were paired together. Instead of both possibly making it to Omaha, only one could go. That's part of the NCAA's plan to have regional representation in Omaha even at the risk of not having the top eight teams.
