I think there are some fair weather fans. I also think there are far more fans who knew that Ed Orgeron was not qualified to be a head coach at LSU, but they were shouted down by the "give him a chance" crowd. Look, I have no choice but to "give him a chance", but after 3 games, this is even worse than i expected to see. Us losing to Miss St would have been a bit worrisome. Getting hammered by State?? Huge red flag. You are right, though. It is only one game. Let's see if they right the ship. There are lots of mediocre teams with bad coaches in the SEC this year. LSU is probably no worse off than any of them...
Seems pretty calm to me. Rational and accurate as well. He is our coach, we support that. Doesn't mean he was our choice.
I think you will see opinions shift week to week, just like Kirk Herbstreits (and all the other talking heads) opinions will shift week to week. I played ball and have been around football my entire life. It is a game of improvements. A lot Super Bowl champions didn't start playing their best football until November. So opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt each week and are highly reflective of what happens each Saturday. I think what we're seeing is disappointment not necessarily due to expectations being too high, or because we got our ass kicked by Mississippi State. But rather because Coach O seems to be exactly who most thought he was. Be honest, How many people outside of Baton Rouge were raving about LSU hiring him? How many fan bases said "damn, we wanted him! LSU is so lucky!" Media may have liked it, but that's probably only because they can make a story out of it and mock him to be farmer fram from The Water Boy.
I remember feeling this way about Miles after he bumbled his way through so many games in his first season, and on, and on. But it was after a larger sample size. What has Orgeron done wrong to write him off so soon? He had a good interim run. While he may not have the cache of Herman or Fisher, with a TE coach he made incredible offensive strides, his recruiting prowess is renowned, he's a respected figure in coaching with deep ties in LA and nationally, and combined with Canada/Aranda his staff would be the envy of many colleges. It's a creative solution when Herman and Fisher were unattainable and many of the hot young names would bring uncertainty with them. He has run off a ton of players and got fully embarrassed in his SEC debut. I'll get my pitchfork if it continues, but recoiling so early smacks of a lack of perspective.
so well respected that he was an unemployed guest on a Baton Rouge radio show literally begging to get hired by anyone who would listen prior to Les bringing him on board.
