I wouldn't be too upset if USC was put into the #1 spot because they did look pretty awesome on bothsides of the ball against a D1 school even if they aren't very good. I'm surprised Ga Southern scored 21pts and I think the media is too. So I won't be suprised if USC is #1 but I think it will be hypocritical if they bump UGA out of the spot. Because if the roles were reversed the AP wouldn't boot USC out of the top spot. It doesn't matter who blows out who and how close a USC game is, they never boot USC out of the top spot until they lose. Or it sure seems that way. Buuuuut, USC looked pretty amazing. I sure hope Wells of OSU can get to 100% before the USC game.
USC looked amazing...agreed. Against Virginia. The thing is...EVERY top-ten team NOT from the ACC :hihi: looked great at least for a half. USC played its first-teamers well into the third quarter...trying to make a statement. If LSU, by contrast, had done that the App State score would have been something to the order of 75-0. Anyone who watched the games knows this and shouldn't change anything this early. Georgia will be number one until they come to Baton Rouge! :thumb:
You might think that they would use a little perspective regarding the stability of Georgia's non-conference home record under Richt. (25-0) The score was 38-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Georgia used 3 different QBs. Cox was put in the game in the 2nd quarter and Stafford still had 200+ yards in the air at the half. Moreno had 3 TDs by halftime and left the game. Then Richt put in a ton of kids coming into a game situation for the first time. Or... "Georgia's win snapped a three-game losing streak of teams ranked No. 1 in the AP poll." The AP should leave Georgia alone until somebody steps up and beats Georgia on the field.
Thanks. The University has been pretty quiet, with all athlete attitude awfully positive (just sorta wound up typing it that way...). Tress has his weekly presser tomorrow, and we should have some more information then. Pics of him on the sideline and his cast make it look like it may be a toe dislocation. nothing broken, but just sorta popped out.
UGA was #1 in preseason because they killed Hawaii last year. Florida proved that any of the top teams in the SEC can crush Hawaii.
I didn't think the Dogs would drop out of the top spot, but damned if they didn't. We stayed in 6th but Missouri closed the gap. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm
thats a joke. why did they get more votes? because they got shredded thru the air by a team that cant throw? maybe they got clemson's votes.
just b/c georgia didnt win by 40 points and played their 3rd stringers is why they jumped them-- plus USC played VA- prob better than ga southern- btu either way this treatment of the sec isnt unusual September 02, 2008 AP Top 25 RANK TEAM RECORD PTS LAST 1 Southern Cal (21) 1-0 1539 3 2 Georgia (20) 1-0 1506 1 3 Ohio St. (15) 1-0 1497 2 4 Oklahoma (2) 1-0 1432 4 5 Florida (5) 1-0 1415 5 6 Missouri (1) 1-0 1301 6 7 LSU (1) 1-0 1207 7 8 West Virginia 1-0 1108 8 9 Auburn 1-0 1033 10 10 Texas 1-0 1028 11 11 Wisconsin 1-0 849 13 12 Texas Tech 1-0 842 12 13 Alabama 1-0 834 24 14 Kansas 1-0 748 14 15 Arizona St. 1-0 672 15 15 BYU 1-0 672 16 17 South Florida 1-0 588 19 18 Oregon 1-0 508 21 19 Penn St. 1-0 467 22 20 Wake Forest 1-0 414 23 21 Fresno St. 1-0 242 NR 22 Utah 1-0 214 NR 23 UCLA 1-0 151 NR 24 Illinois 0-1 147 20 24 South Carolina 1-0 147 NR Others receiving votes: Clemson 143, East Carolina 108, California 91, Boston College 36, Florida St. 36, Cincinnati 35, Tennessee 30, Boise St. 19, Bowling Green 17, Virginia Tech 14, Connecticut 9, Rutgers 6, Kentucky 5, Nebraska 4, Oklahoma St. 3, Arizona 2, TCU 2, Miami 1, North Carolina 1, Notre Dame 1, Tulsa 1.
