Has anybody read when Foley expects to name the new HC? I wonder if CUM gave Foley a heads-up as to what his plans were before yesterdays announcement?
:geaux: Wonder how much influence, if any, CUM will have on who his replacement is? Also curious if maybe Gonzales had a "heads up" this was going down? Just wonderin'..... :LSU231:
Here's the Orlando Sentinel's list: Bob Stoops -- served as defensive coordinator at UF from 1996-98, and was a top candidate to become head coach after Steve Spurrier resigned in 2002. Stoops turned the job down then and, after Ron Zook was fired in 2004, said he was not interested in the job. Stoops recently said he had no interest in becoming head coach at Notre Dame, but he might feel differently about the Gators because of his relationship with Foley. After 11 seasons at Oklahoma, maybe he feels this is the right time to head back to Gainesville. Mike Shanahan -- who is close friends with Foley. After Spurrier resigned, Foley flew to Denver to interview Shanahan before getting turned down. Shanahan was the Gators' offensive coordinator from 1980-83, and he is searching for a job. This could throw an interesting wrench in his plans, considering it is widely expected he would land in the NFL next season, with speculation surrounding Washington, Chicago and even Dallas. Charlie Strong -- Would Louisville coach Charlie Strong pull a Billy Donovan and return to Gainesville if given the opportunity? Gary Patterson -- just led the Horned Frogs to an undefeated season. His situation is similar to that of Meyer when Foley plucked him out of Utah to replace Zook. Patterson has built TCU into a BCS buster program with a high-powered offense. Patterson did just sign a contract extension to stay at the school. Dan Mullen -- spent four years as Gators offensive coordinator under Meyer before leaving to become Bulldogs head coach last season. He and Meyer are close so Meyer might push for him if consulted. Mike Leach -- has as high-powered an offense as you can get. Butch Davis -- has recruiting ties to Florida and has proven he can get the job done in Chapel Hill and with the Miami Hurricanes Jon Gruden -- now a commentator at ESPN and loves his job, but perhaps Foley could persuade him to get back into coaching. Kyle Whittingham -- the Utah coach is a Meyer disciple, and Foley could go to the same coaching tree. Stoops, Shanahan could be on Gators' list to replace Urban Meyer. -- OrlandoSentinel.com
don't know if this is even pertinent anymore but Sporting News Today reported that the Fla AD'stop choice was Houston'sKevin Summerlin (sp?)
I think Steve Adazio will take over for awhile, but some the one that interests me the most is Kyle Whittingham from Utah. What about Tebow?
