If LSU's offensive line hadn't imploded over the last 3 games and actually gave JJ time to pass, his stats probably wouldn't have been so bad. Lee had plenty of time all season up to the first half of the Troy game, and he stunk it up game in and game out. JJ has loads of promise... he actually tries to look for an open receiver. I had forgotten what it was like to see a QB in purple in gold look away from a receiver who was blanket covered. Also, Lee had a running game to help him out. Scott has been a dud the last three games. The WHOLE offense has been on JJ's shoulders. JJ should have played earlier in the year when teams weren't putting 9 in the box. Sometimes I wonder if the whole "black quarterback" thing really plays a role with fans.
I tend to agree. And since each have not been real impressive Id like to find one that has some confidence going into the spring. Of course if we play GT there is a chance both of them may not get on the field the whole game.
The playcalling stalled JJ in the second half. You stat comparisons still doesnt make any sense. We ran more than we passed in the second half of that game. You leave out alot of facts to back up your point. JJ has more upside imo, Lee has major problems that need to be addressed. So does JJ, his throwing mechanics are not the greatest. At this point I would go with Jefferson. Essentially, he put up 30 points and our defense couldnt secure the win.
it does with me. I prefer black ones. i was the first one on the JJ bandwagon but unfortunately hes not fat like rohan which limits his likability and upside. i really believe his nomo wind-up is going to kill his effectiveness as a passer.
Well, we ran more than we passed because Jefferson was hitting only 40% of his passes for 2.6 yards per catch! His runs average only 2.8 yards per carry. No play calling was helping him much. No I didn't. Lee is simply a better passer than Jefferson, the stats I posted show it. 170 yards per game versus 27. Passing efficiency of 116 versus 87. QB rating 116 versus 106. Both quarterbacks have upside, but that won't help us now. We paid a lot for Lee's experience and we should take just as much advantage of that as we will with Jefferson's legs. Jefferson threw for two TD's . . . that is putting up 14 points.
not an end. maybe tempered it some. i know many people who disliked jamarcus partly because he was black. that became clear when the alcohol was fully induced.
pulling up jr's passer rating is usually a shock for some to see. selective memory tends to be a problem for some.
My perspective is my own. Thanks for being patient with me, though. Yes, that's why I said he had 50 net yards. You'll forgive me if I disagree with you and your perspective. First, I'm not questioning JJ's ability, I'm questioning his effectiveness. Second, I'm not discounting him as a threat, I'm saying he failed to lead the team to victory in the second half. Third, take out the dropped balls and penalties and missed blocks and poor tackling and missed assignments, and LSU crushes Arkansas. But those things are part of that (nasty-@ss) football game, including the sacks. I get it, Izzy - you are anti-Lee. Just because I think that's wrong-headed doesn't make me anti-JJ. I just don't think we saw the same football game on Friday. Of course, this is all just my questionable perspective that has been given the benefit of your almighty doubt.
Unfortunately for us, he's Einstein... Red, You're trying to skew these stats so much that it's sad. Jefferson has only had really significant playing time (series-wise) in two games (Ole Miss and Arkansas). Even against Ole Miss he was limited in playing time. I love how you're averaging all the games together (even ones where he had no pass attempts). He had 129 yards against Ole Miss and 143 against Arkansas. Those are the only ones of any substance. Not bad considering Lee was 4-12 against Ole Miss with ZERO tds and 1 INT. in almost a half (lord knows he should have had another pick 6). Jefferson played a little over a half. Lee had some decent to good games in the middle, but actually got worse toward the end. And don't forget that it was Jefferson who came in on 4th and 2 and scored against Troy to start our comeback. Do I think we would have scored that extremely important TD without putting him in for that play? Hell No. Because we couldn't even get a yard on the ground with our RBs in crunch time for the majority of that game and certainly couldn't pass it in the endzone. We were down 31-3 to TROY! No one is saying that Jefferson is the savior or that he won't struggle. It's just that at this point, he appears to be playing the best. I thought most of his passes were very accurate against Arkansas and he had about 3 or 4 drops as well. Most importantly, he played pretty smart. He took some sacks and threw the ball away most times when there was nothing there rather than forcing it. I'll say it again, I think his passes looked better than Lee's. He actually throws the ball with some zip on it. I didn't see a bunch of receivers getting crushed on every play. And Red, name me one game where Lee put up 14 points like Jefferson and didn't give the ball away to the other team. Jefferson did what he had to do and our D lost it. It's plain and simple. No matter how you want to skew it, 30 points from the offense should be enough against a team who has a sword fight at QB (Casey Dick and Nathan Dick) and no star RB (Michael Smith). It doesn't matter if the offense shut down in the 2nd half, they never really started. At least the offense played well for parts of the game. And you keep talking about running QBs, but state that Tebow, Mauck, Flynn, etc. were all running/passing QBs. Well no $hit... It is a rare QB that runs and never throws it or throws it just a few times. Jefferson appears capable of both and has done both. I wasn't around for LSU's first National Championship, but Warren Rabb won LSU's first National Championship as a running QB I believe. So there you go...we have a great history of success with running Qbs (even in the SEC!). I can guarantee you that whoever we play in the bowl would much rather face Lee than Jefferson. Lee is so easy to plan for it isn't funny. Stats can sometimes be worthless. Aaron Brooks was very good in the stat category. Tell me where he is QBing now with all of his talent? He got all of his great numbers during garbage time after he had already blown the games. In the end, I would love to see Lee do great and I still thank him for leading us to beat Auburn. I just think that right now, you've got to see what Jefferson can do with more time to gameplan.
