You're exactly right about Donovan and he was under .500 his first two seasons at Florida...Further proof that you don't need to turn around a program during the first year to be a top notch coach.
most of this is just semantic about what "top-notch" is. for me, there are so many coaches that have been to the FF that to be considered top-notch you have to have been there. of course you can still be a great coach. anyway, i dont think lsu should go after a "top notch" coach. go for a good coach thats a great recruiter but hasnt been at a top level program. the odds are too good that you end up with a pitino or knight that has success but limited success.
do you want a coach that is a "big" name, or do you want a young up and comer that may not have the name but has done some impressive things and had a good record? i got for the later, personally. i would like to see someone who is young, talented, and can stay with lsu, turning it into a good program. someone who miight have more reason to then stay, knowing he is at a school that can offer him the resources if he gives them a program that they have reason to allocate more resources to, to turn it into a top program.
LSU does not need a top notch coach...I agree that we should go after a young coach, that's what I want to see...Somebody that will become a great HC cause he's at LSU, not somebody that became a a great HC somewhere else.
If I was an LSU fan I would be pushing for Tim Floyd. He's a southern guy and even though we love him at SC , he seems like he might be willing to leave for the South. he's turned around SC's program. great coach and a great guy
I'd love to get Tim Floyd. But I just don't think he'd leave now and even if he would, I don't think LSU would spend the jack necessary to get him outta L.A. It may take $2 mil or more to get him out of USC.
OK, whatever that means. I'd take Tim Floyd over any of the guys anyone has mentioned. Rather have Mark Few or a guy like Floyd who has won everywhere he has ever been except the Bulls which was an unwinnable situation. Floyd is a really good coach and recruiter.
I think he was refering to the OJ Mayo situation which was rediculous. Few is a great coach, but I think he is waiting for the Oregon job to open up so he can coach at his alma mater
Joke Ridiculous. And you know it wasn't because all college players know they cant accept tickets. And it wasn't his first time.
