Funny stuff between vball and the cougar dude. I really wish I could go to this game but its not in the cards. I spent almost 4 years living in Vancouver, BC and went to quit a few Huskies games in Seattle back in the 80's. Its a great, great place to experience a game. Not so much for the rabid fan base but for the picturesque setting with the mountains and water as a back drop. Its really beautiful in that part of the country.
Only Brandon Jacobs can say that.:yelwink2: But Locker seems like the one bright spot at UW. Given the video is sped up at times but you can see this guy can break arm tackles and has some wheels.
I was watching a UDub game a couple of years ago, and the commentator was talking about Jake Locker. I don't remember the first part of the sentence, but part of it was "blah blah blah, but Locker blah blah blah." I remember that he didn't stress the words properly, and it came out as "Butt Locker". Naturally, I found this hysterical and proceeded to laugh for no less than 15 minutes. The nickname stuck, and everyone in my head has called him that ever since. Feel free to adopt the nickname if you are so inclined.
I believe he was injured in the 4th game last year and missed the rest of the season. He's supposed to be healthy now, threw for 2,000 yards two years ago.
So thought I'd help enlighten you guys a little about UW football. First of all this team was more talented last year than our record indicated. Our Cougar friends would for you to think we are dead and have no talent that is simply not true. The fortunes of this years team relies on the arm and legs of Jake Locker. In his FR (RS) he won games by being more athletic (stronger and faster) than other teams players he still made lots of mistakes aka overthrowing receivers and completing passes past the line of scrimmage. In his SO (RS) year Locker showed improved accuracy in the beginning of the year until he got injured in the Stanford game, which destroyed our season. In his high school years Locker ran the wishbone so not much throwing there, under he who shall not be named there was no QB coach seriously....the QB who out of all the NCAA QBs need a QB coach didn’t have one. The source of optimism for all UW fans relies around the unlimited potential Locker has if coached by a good HC and QB coach, which we now have, guiding him. Our WRs are young and talented, but need to improve hands wise so if when they figure it out, that will really help us this year. The TEs are very talented and should be a big part of the offence this year. They are not very experienced, but nobody doubts they will be good. The RBs are ok their success heavily depends on the success of the oline. Our oline is our weak link probably we are switching to a zone blocking system so the guys have lost a lot of weight, I’m not really sure how well they will do, I hope for the best but I’m not real optimistic. On defense our D line will be improved as all of the starters are back and we were starting young guys who couldn’t get pressure. Teo-Neshheim is really good at DE, but he faced lots of double teams. Our linebackers are a very good unit EJ Savanah is coming back from being benched last year, but two years ago he led the Pac-10 in tackles. The other two linebackers are good and are both returning solid starters. The secondary is this teams biggest weakness the players are young and some decent freshman and JUCO guys should help. On special teams we have an new punter and kicker I don’t know much about them, but there is no way they can be worse that the graduated punter and kicker from last year. UW does not have a small stadium 73,000 people and with like 80% of the fans between the end zones it can get pretty loud down on the field. On the time zone difference I understand that traveling East is easier than to the west, but this game starts 7:30 Pacific so that’s like 9:30 for LSU so that could be more of a factor than some people think. So while I don’t expect UW to win I do expect them to come out fired up and in shape aka cut (unlike recent years) and play well through the first half. Two years ago when Locker wasn’t hurt we played both Ohio State and USC close at home so I know that it is possible. UW may lay an egg and LSU could run away with it, but I think a lot of you will be surprised until LSU is able to exploit UW’s lack of depth across the board. If UW is able to make a game of this then it would go a long ways towards rebuilding our program as we have like 10 recruits visiting for this game. Remember listening to a Cougar about UW is like us listing to an Arkansas fan about LSU they are biased and go every where on the internet.
LSU also, morale and coaching issues really came into play with both teams. Our cougar friends have issues. Ouch, not good news for UW. The Tiger D front should be great. Stick around, thanks for the visit :thumb:
I've wondered about that, too. But since LSU is used to playing night games, I think they'll do better than some Big-10 team that only plays in the afternoon. At least I hope so.
