One of the more interesting stats that I saw was that Claiborne is 3rd on the team in total all-purpose running as a result of kickoff returns and ints (Reuben Randle is 1st, Spencer Ware 2nd in all-purpose running). cfbstats.com - 2011 LSU Tigers All-Purpose Running
Anyone catch the Ohio-Temple game last night where the runner dove into the end zone from the 5 with nobody around him? Refs threw the flag...BUT THEY COUNTED THE TD, with some mealy-mouthed explanation that the unsportsmanlike conduct didn't occur prior to the TD. This rule is now officially a joke.
i think most thought as soon as this new rule was announced, that it would be a joke in how unevenly it was applied. this is one of those things that is so freakin subjective, it is gonna be either ignored or "over-applied", depending on the officiating crew. just out of curiousity, how many times has it been applied to where td's were taken back this year? other than brad wing's?
As of this weekend, Wing's is still the only one. Maybe there's some in D-II and D-III I'm not aware of. If what Danielson said during the Florida game is true, then the rule interpretation is uneven by design, since it sounds like it's up to the discretion of the crew working the game whether to enforce it. Personally, I'm baffled as to why the coaches pushed for this rule change. 15 yards on the kickoff was fine the way it was. The NFL stopped being the No-Fun League years ago. You can almost get away with murder during end zone celebrations now.
3.2/game at home I didn't figure it would be much different as they don't get called often but as I expected it's still lower at home. I wonder how many penalties are observed but not called. I know their O-line has gotten away with murder the last few years and never get called for holding.
I am much happier sitting atop the fumble/int chart than worried about leading the penalty chart. A great coach once told me if your Defense is not getting a few penalties they are not playing aggressive enough. :tigereye:
Seems like I remember reading that Buffalo engaged in some taunting against Stony Brook, and it was actually prior to Brad Wing. But eh, it was Buffalo and Stony Brook and so no one outside of New York cared.
Bama is enjoying an 8 yard advantage in penalty yardage per game. LSU is enjoying a 5 yard advantage in penalty yardage per game. So while Bama has an alarmingly low penalty stats, their opponents are almost as low (in fact Bama is 2nd to last in college football in terms of their opponents penalty yardage per game).
These are two incredible focused disciplined teams, and turnovers aren't going to be an issue. AJ doesn't force throws, and makes good decisions... Our RB's DO NOT put the ball on the ground, and they wont in this game... Forget penalties as well... The same can be said for LSU, so like I said, don't look for that to be a factor in this game...
:hihi: They haven't had the **** knocked out of em yet... I hope you show up here after the game. Such an irritating ****.
