Edwards, Graves set for runoff in 6th Congressional District Posted: Nov 04, 2014 9:25 PM CST Updated: Nov 05, 2014 7:17 AM CST By Amber Stegall Connect BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards, a Democrat, earned a runoff spot against Republican Garret Graves in a crowded field of candidates in the 6th Congressional District race. "I still feel very good," said Edwards. "I'm the lead candidate. I stayed the lead candidate and on December 6, I'll still be the lead candidate." Edwards, 87, is seeking a political comeback after serving eight years in a federal prison on corruption charges. He finished with 30 percent of the vote, followed closely by Graves with 27 percent. "I thought with all the money that he was spending, I was not surprised it went to a runoff. He ran a very effective campaign," Edwards responded when asked if he was surprised about the race going to a runoff. Graves said he never wanted to be a politician, just a public servant. He told supporters he wants to go to Washington to be a "difference maker." He highlighted what he says he's been told are the big issues - unsecured borders, the threat of ISIS and Obamacare. He ended his speech with a message for the former governor. "And I want to congratulate his kids, Eli and Trina, for getting into the runoff," he laughed. "And, I want to tell Governor Edwards, 'We've got one month and you'd better eat your Wheaties.'" Graves added he's hopeful, but you can't underestimate Edwin Edwards. The district seat was vacated by Republican Bill Cassidy, who campaigned for Senate. Get more Election Day numbers here: http://shout.lt/J4d4
Edwards is an influence peddler, but an equal opportunity one, he will take money from anybody on any side of any issue. Graves is a blind ideologue and a Bobby Jindal sycophant. You can see the strings moving his arms. Louisiana would be better off if Texas just annexed us.
So, you want to be a Texan? And what would they change the name of Louisiana State University to? Hook 'em Tigers! GEAUX Horns!
I just want a complete change of politicians and banana republic politics. Louisiana would always be a region. Texas pays faculty far better. Better roads, better schools, better everything except the food and music. No need to give any of that up. Just the scumbag politics.
