They are a lot different but their unorthodox style of game management ties them at the hip. What say you?
man good question. I think Nutt is crazier. I think Les Miles at least has a plan, now that plan may not work out like it was drawn up, but Nutt should be in a straight jacket.
Nutt has never developed a national following for being zany. Les now has. Reading the VolNation thread, and knowing we have a Les Miles thread on our forum.... makes you wonder how widespread his "popularity" is. I'm not sure what the long term effect will be for LSU's image, but the entertainment value for sports fans is certainly undeniable.
That's what I was trying to say in another thread. You know how Hollywood personalities like Brittney Spears, and Paris Hilton, will stage controversy, just to get in the tabloids so people will talk about them, and make them want to spend money on their brand? Well is all publicity good publicity? I mean look at what happened. How many kids out there after the last 2 weeks are saying to themselves, man I would love to play for a coach like that.
Cannot compare. Nutt's record is NOTHING like Les, Nutt is a horrible recruiter. Miles is one of the best, Nutt sells his soul with no pay off (Masoli) and he usually runs teams into the ground. You can call Les Zany, but comparing Nutt to Miles is absurd in my book. Miles runs circles around Nutt. Yes I know spare me his record around Nutt. Look at the total body of work on and off the field.
You missed the whole point of the thread and you come off sounding extremely defensive. Here it is again: "They are a lot different but their unorthodox style of game management ties them at the hip." You can't deny that these 2 men on gameday leave you scratching your head more times than not, more than probably any other head coaches in college football. I would add though, I wouldn't want Houston Nutt anywhere close to the LSU campus. Whack job in every aspect (recruiting, player management, game planning, game management).
College Football: From mad men to midseason awards - ESPN Great article in which he talks about just that at the beginning, all the whacky risky decisions by head coaches this year.
