I have never seen that in my life at any level of football.

Entirely too big a deal was made out of this during the game. How many times did they replay that? I think it was at least 5.

Me neither. I always thought it was just one flag and, if necessary, the official can use his hat to mark another penalty.

I also agree that the announcers just went on WAY too long over it.

I officiate high school football in Louisiana and we almost all of us carry two flags with us just in case a play is that sloppy.

They really were tickled about the whole thing, though.

We shouldn't complain about the officiating. That PAC-10 crew was pretty much on par with the rest of the SEC officiating that we have seen all season. That display makes me want a national NCAA-sponsored officials unit. The officials who grade out better get to officiate the better games. The best crews of the season get the best bowl games. You could work them regionally, rather than by conference so that they weren't travelling across the country week-in and week-out.

They can carry 5 hankies for what its worth.
