Not too late and I think the opposite needs to happen in regards to play calling. Let JJ pass the ball downfield and get the D spread out a little to where JJ is more comfortable. If he is comfortable then maybe the WRs will gain the confidence and start catching the balls they have no excuses for dropping. If the WRs do their job and the Crowton doesn't hold back the offense with options and short and intermediate throws, I think we will see JJ just at the level of production needed to compete against Bama, UF, and Arky. (Around 150-200 yards a game passing is our target IMO) Gonzo helps with packages but not to a great extent. Maybe it would help but I think Gonzo needs to focus on the WRs right now given what has occurred over the last 2 years. Randle is the only one who is our sure thing right now and that is why the team calls him the Guarantee. Did I mention that we need to get rid of the option. Or at least not run it once or twice a series.
The system won't let me vote. But I'm for playing both quarterbacks and going with the guy with the hot hand. Let them compete.
The option has to go, Les Miles needs a "Phuck That Button" Where everytime we run a ridiculous play: Option, keeper, sweep to the short side, Miles gets to push the button and it sends an electric shock to GC's head set. like an electric shock collar for dogs I say we go back to the 2 tight end set and pound the football, try an open up the PA a little but with some down field or over the middle routes. More routes to Randle & D.Peterson now that we have him back. I want to see more than 2 WR screens & more than 2 carries by RS a game. The only question is, do we practice getting better at what we have, or do try something new????? We only have a one game to decide what we are changing, A)the offense to help JJ be more successful or B) a new QB to help the offense be more successful I vote A
I voted to start Lee. Not so much as a statement about Jefferson, but more as a game plan issue. Decide today you are going to start with Lee. Game plan the first 15 plays so you build Lee's confidence. We threw this kid to the wolves once before. Lets be smart and give him (and this team) the best chance to start strong Saturday and build confidence in the offense. You can do this early in the game by calling plays that lets JL build confidence (versus throwing him in the game we are down by 14 and everyone knows he is coming in to throw the ball around). If I could hope... I would run the ball the first few plays (because the DC for Tenn will anticipate Lee throwing the ball because that is his perceived strength). After Ridley pounds in side for 4-6 yards a carry and Tenn starts stacking the line I would through the quick slant. Getting first downs, keeping Tenn DC off balance should allow the offense to build momentum. Just my $.02
I know JL had another shot last year against La Tech, but I can't help but believe he has improved. I know it's been said before, but remember what Matthew Stafford did at GA his freshman year. Hopefully, Lee has improved since his freshman year but we won't know if he doesn't get meaningful PT. He has to be tougher mentally after all he's been through. I also can't help but compare JL and his potential to throw an INT to a running back who gains yards but tends to occasionally put it on the ground. Not saying there is any comparison here but Adrian Peterson will put it on the ground yet, he puts up a lot of yards between fumbles. Net result is positive. We have a running game, which we didn't have last year. All that to say I'd rather have 250 yards of passing and a JL INT to go with 200 yards of rushing than what we are seeing today.
Put him on offense under Crowton and the first time he ripped off a big gain, he'd be benched and we'd never see him again.
