I'm starting the first annual "Jacob Hester Memorial Heart of a Tiger" award. This award goes to the player that brought "it" every game, gave it his all every play, and never gave up. Who wins this award this year............(does anybody?)
I can't think of anyone this year. Charles Scott has shown shades of that, but I truly don't think anyone is truly deserving of the honor this year. Even Dickson, who wears the #18, has had a disappointing season. He dropped at least two crucial passes Friday.
Maybe we can start this award NEXT year. This year I would be hard pressed to find any Tiger who played hard and strong every game. Except maybe that Baker kid who tried to decapitate kick returners quite often. :geaux:
Quinn Johnson is a good choice. I would've gone with Alem had he not had gone all Colt David on us in the 2nd half. He's brought it consistently all year, just had a momentary lapse in judgment in the heat of the moment. It's really hard to find a bright spot on the year, so I guess I will 2nd the nomination of Quinn Johnson.
That is an excellent point. The special teamers brought the heat on every single kick off this season. In addition to Baker, I enjoyed seeing Ron Brooks (#13) and Dan Graff (33) busting heads this year on ST. Can't wait to see Baker on the field next year in some capacity.
Key drops? I can remember one throw that he dropped, right after his long catch...but I don't know how important that catch would have been since he was drifting towards the sidelines. Even if he catches it he's pushed out of bounds for a 2-3 yard gain. JJ threw a fastball low and behind him as well...can't be too mad at a fullback for the occasional drops, especially on a poorly thrown ball such as that one, since catching the ball isn't his primary job. He made a great grab to get us down the field, and the drop he had a few plays later was kind of a throw away pass by JJ anyway. Which other drop did Quinn have on Friday?
Those were the two drops. I didn't record the game Friday--and I'm actually trying desperately to forget it.
I don't mind drops if the kid is still giving it his all on every play. If he dropped the ball cause he didn't care or didn't want to get hit or heard footsteps then that is one thing. If he dropped it because his hands are torn up from beating up on linebackers then that's another thing entirely.
