I'm not too worried about it. I swim 8 to 10 thousand yards six days a week. Plus all my people lived into their late 80s or 90s. Also I am skipping the five packs a day for forty years and the daily french fries for lunch. I may make it to 97.
8000 yards takes right about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I swim 1000 yards in 13 to 15 minutes. Workout usually goes like this: 1000 yard warm up 13-15 minutes 2 minutes rest 10 x 100 yard freestyles on 1 minute thirty second interval. Average clip is 1:02 so rest about 28 seconds. 10 x 100 yard breaststoke or butterfly on 1 minute thirty second interval. Average clip is 1:09 for breast so rest about 21 seconds and 1:04 for butterfly so rest abiyt 26 seconds. either 40 X 100 yard im on 1 minute thirty second interval. Average clip is 1:04 so I rest about 26 seconds or 20 X 200 yard im on 3 minute interval. Average clip is 2:20 so rest is about 40 seconds. 1000 yard cool down 15-17 minutes. Two or three days a week I swim a three k after work (3300 yards) in addition to my morning workout. On days I do kicks or drills I swim less yardage, but since I don't do meets anymore I don't do a lot of kicking or drilling. Not enough. I am a pretty thin and fit dude, but I still have a beer belly.
No. There isn't a lot of down time between sets. Maybe a minute. Two if I am sore. No need for bathroom breaks. I am in a swimming pool. I get to the pool at ten to five and am on my way to work by 7:30. Once my heart rate gets up it never drops. I swim at an 80% of full blown sprint for about two hours. It sounds alot harder than it is. LSU swimmers probably cover 1500 to 1800 yards in the time it takes me to cover 1000.
swimming is a different type conditioning than anything else. i remember being able to do almost anything and never really get tired then swim like 10 mins and wanted to die. and yes you are there 3 hrs. thats commitment 6 days a week. kudos mf.
I agree with this. I've always wanted to complete a tri (one of my goals along with a half-marathon) but I know I'll never do it because I would definitely drown. The running and biking I can handle, but for me, it's maximum effort for minimal distance with swimming.
Okie, saw a commercial on TV the other day about 3 new breakfast burritos at Sonic. Thought you'd like to know...if you didn't already!
