I used to have an elderly man come in every day for breakfast at the cafe and he ordered the same thing every morning.

A bowl of grits, with crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar, topped with two poached eggs.

We even named it after him....The "Mister Charley" special. Now that sticks to your ribs.

When the nuclear plant was being built in St. Francisville, there was a drive-in on the highway near star hill that catered to the hundreds of workers commuting from baton rouge every day.

They had a popular take-out dish called breakfast-in-a-cup. It was a tall 24-ounce foam cup with grits at the bottom with a slab of butter followed by two fried eggs and two strips of crumbled bacon at the top. It came with a long milk-shake spoon and you could just eat your way through the bacon and eggs into the buttery grits as you drove.

    Finest kind.

thats incredible. i have one of those little double shot cans before i run races and i am about to explode at the starting line.

breakfast is awesome, the tragedy is that i never want it in the morning. on the occasions that i do, i love it. the best thing in the world i waking up late and going to a breakfast buffet.

I can't remember the name. It closed after the plant was finished and traffic dried up. It was in a plain frame building on the right going up and it has been a number of businesses since then. Might even have been a double-wide once.

But there has been many a road trip that I wish i had a breakfast-in-a-cup.

OIC...I'll have to ask some of the old timers around the office.

ETA: They knew exactly what you where talking about. The building is gone now, state purchased and destroyed it in order to widen the highway.

The last thing that was there was Road Side BBQ. I miss easy access to their BBQ dearly.

The old guys in the office said I wasn’t even born yet when it sold the famous breakfast in a cup.
