most defensive coaches are conservative with their offenses b/c they think their defense should win the game. but del rio has learned alot about turning over control to the OC in the NFL. i would trust he would do the same if he hires and trusts his own OC on the college level.

then again, the guy hired carl (run run pass) smith this year.

call me dumb, call me crazy and this is way early, but a few flies on the walls of the AD building said this man would be at the top of the list if Miles left.

    Ron Zook:

2005- University of Illinois (head coach) 2002-04 University of Florida (head coach) 2000-01 New Orleans Saints (defensive coordinator) 1999 Kansas City Chiefs (defensive backs) 1996-98 Pittsburgh Steelers (special teams) 1995 University of Florida (associate head coach/special teams coordinator/nickelbackers and strong safeties) 1994 University of Florida (special teams coordinator/nickelbackers) 1991-93 University of Florida (defensive coordinator/defensive backs) 1988-90 Ohio State University (defensive backs) 1987 Virginia Tech (defensive coordinator/assistant head coach) 1984-86 University of Tennessee (defensive backs) 1983 Kansas University (defensive coordinator) 1981-82 University of Cincinnati (defensive coordinator) 1978-80 Murray State University (defensive backs) 1976-77 Orrville High School

The belief is that while he may not be the best gameday guy, he is the best recruiter available and if you recruit louisiana dominantly, then you should win... and win often.

Also, I thnk he and Crowton are friendly, and I know for a fact a major point of emphasis in the search would be to keep Crowton happy.

I said a few weeks ago I would like this hire. Not many could follow Steve Spurrier and he was DOA because he could never live up to the expectations and had no support.

Put him in an environment where he is comfortable and surround him with some good coaches and I think it would be a great hire. I doubt he would leave Illinois though.

I hope we don't go down that road again. Miles was forced to keep Fisher and they clearly had problems.

I have no problems with Crowton staying, but only if it's the new coach's decision. And I would not want to hire a coach just so he will keep Crowton.

Zook had problems coaching at Florida. Tons of talent, probably more than we have here, but lost too many games. That scares me.

well just to put into perspective how good of a job Crowton has done.

What offense would you consider to be more talented, the 06 offense or the 07 offense?

The offense with the 1st overall pick at QB, and 2 1st round receivers,

    or

the offense with a late-round to undrafted QB, a good receiver and some inexperienced guys?

    Obviously you take 06, right?

    WELL...

06 points scored through 12 regular season games: 369 pts or 30.75 pts per game

07 points scored through 12 games: 482 points or 40.16 pts pet game.

that's a great point, and it's why i'm high on crowton and still i don't think the offense is 100% his.

I'm not questioning Crowton. I'm questioning hiring a coach just because he will keep Crowton. That requirement is down on my list of priorities when hiring a head coach.

You hire the best HC you can find, period. Think Spurrier or Rodriguez would want to keep Crowton? I don't. Would you say no to them if they wanted the job? I wouldn't.
