DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REASON WHY RECRUIT D J AUGUSTIN CHOSE TO GO ELSEWHERE RATHER THAN COMING TO L S U?
I heard his HS coach interviewed on local Austin radio a couple of days ago. Coach said he liked the program, the school, the strength and conditioning program, and the ways Coach Barnes has developed other guards. I imagine he was also looking at their last 2 recruiting classes and maybe moreso at the other kids who are signing this year including the #2 prospect in the country, 6'10" Kevin Durant from Maryland. Evidently Barnes is figuring on a couple of early NBA defections or transfers. He has 2 seniors out of 11 on scholarship this year with 6 commitments for next year. Those numbers don't work with only 13 scholarships to give.
From what I've read, LSU was pretty much banking on DJ because they haven't recruiting any true PG's other than DJ. Brady could be in trouble with trying to find a true point guard.
Look at the thread "DJ Update" on the Recruiting Board for all of the info. I agree that Butch and Brady need to go after a good PG. I'm not sure another forward does much for the team. The good news is that college bball recruiting is much about finding good college players now anyway, b/c most of the "impact" HS players play one year and leave (and most of them are signed now). A good JUCO PG or a late bloomer this season would fit in nicely to what we already have in place. Looks like the Tigers are cruising to a nice win over a EA team that beat top 25 Iowa State. That's not to bad...
