no kidding sparky but you have to start by not increasing it further which begins by holding those in office accountable to their budgets set in the first place. thats why the balanced budget amendment is a good thing and a fine starting point.
No chit Sherlock… But you start with foreign aid to countries that hate us first. I stated FIRST clearly…Nice try on political spin though… The only real dent we would see is cuts from the big three though with this new Medicare loop hole, it seems this is going to be the biggest spender… “We need to cut 80% of this foreign aid chit first IMO...”
Agreed. All large budget items need reform. We can't leave defense out of the discussion. They waste as much as anyone else.
When trying to solve a problem you don't generally go around addressing things that are not related to the problem. Why bother ourselves with foreign aid or pork when they make up what rounds to 0% of the budget deficit?
Because we have a spending issue and it is the exact mentality of a little here a little there that gets us in this chit. Furthermore, we are dealing with Dem’s vs. the GOP, gotta start somewhere. However, Billions a year do matter. Just as the Dumb & Dumber stimulus package was stupid and stupid+1….. We give Billions in foreign aid a year, I am sure we have spent Billions of the war which we should stop and we spend billions here on so called PORK…. It adds up and once they get the process rolling, they can better work deals on cuts that are going to hurt because they will have to cut less of it…
These dudes aren't reformed!!! Do you think these Freshmen Republicans who were so gung-ho and could only manage to cut 30 billion from the budget are any different than their predecessors? Of course not. A real reformer is not going to waste time with the pennies like pork and foreign aid. A real reformer is going to go after defense and entitlements. After some real reform occurs then we can worry about non defense discretionary spending. Anybody concerning themselves with discretionary spending is either uninformed on where the deficits are coming from, or is pandering to their base.
That is just it. Billions don't matter. We need to cut over one thousand billion. The only places you find that kind of outlay is in the entitlement programs and in defense. To illustrate this we could eliminate every government program except Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Defense, and interest on the debt, and we would still have a deficit of 100 billion dollars.
The problem is only one guy has tried and he was lambasted for it. Everyone else is too much of a wimp to come up with a specific plan. But put me in the line of people who disagree with you on this. We have to change the culture. We need these changes as quick as possible but it's not realistic to think they will skip steps 1-9 and go straight to ten.
