I think Les uses it to help develop some aggression in practice and aggressiveness is a virtue in a linebacker. Nobody likes practice injuries, so there are a lot of "thump" drill run in practice and endless routines that don't end in taking a man down or avoiding being taken down. We've all seen good teams that start slow in the first couple of games until they shook off that practice mindset and gotten aggressive. The Cat drill allows a couple of players to go all out with everybody watching but small chance of injury with no other players falling into their knees or something.
OK, that makes sense now. I didn't think of it that way. Come to think of it, I recall fRan running the Oklahoma drill a lot during his time. He always made it a point to do it as close as possible to where the practice observers were standing and I always took it as him just trying to please the crowd.
Damn surprised no one caught the Cameron Robinson slip. I was projecting the future 2 years in advance. Meant to say Vadal Alexander. Robinson is 2014 prospect.
