I'll throw out the question for all freshmen in general, but this is an excuse to post some comments made to me by Patterson coach Tommy Minton after watching practice the other day. He felt, of the freshman linebackers, his guy Lorenzo Phillips, along with Kwon Alexander and Jones from Jesuit, look the most ready to play. (Phillips, he said, is already getting a lot of reps with the 2's, and Kenny Hilliard told him LP turned heads in the Big Cat) Granier looks the part as well. He also said Lamar Louis physically looks like a linebacker, but its not showing in technique, such as taking proper angles to the ball and having a quick plant and change-of-direction. Feist, he said, looks too bulked up to play LB.

I see Kwon redshirting along with Grainer. Debo is my 1st LB in and Phillips and Louis have a chance to play this year.

    Mills will be one...

Think we will see Cameron Robinson and Hill get PT.

I think Hunter can play now but do we need him right away?

Louis and Holmes could be good special team options as well among others.

Well Phillips got steamrolled in the first Big Cat, but most certainly won the second battle...which was the last one open to media.

Feist "too bulked up to play LB"? Hmmm...

Agree with BHelm on the rest.

Hunter, I think, is the most intriguing prospect in this class. But you're right, there's just no room for him this year. Next year, on the other hand.....

I think that was mostly an observation that he's a lot bigger than a typical Chavis OLB. He usually likes them small and quick. My observer said he looks more like a Chavis DE than a LB.

I have heard it suggested by some that he may be redshirted. I'd have to assume if he is, it may be because they plan on moving him to DE. Considering he came in early and was VERY highly thought of in spring, that's the only thing that makes sense.

We do. Now we just need to shore up...of all things...CB depth. This current class will take care of that, but I hope we make it thru this season with no injuries at the position.

How do you see a drill like this as an indication on how well a linebacker is going to play? I certainly can understand its merits if you were talking about a defensive lineman, or a linebacker with one hand in the dirt, but this drill is about full contact when game situations call more for those guys to be getting around/shedding blocks.

Didn't say I did. He mentioned it was said how well he did in the Big Cat, and I spoke to the only two Big Cat Drills that were available to the public. In one, JC Copeland completely abused him, and in the next, he completely abused whomever the poor soul was that had to follow JC Copeland vs LP. What's your point?
