I already predicted Petrino lasts only 2 years. With only 4 returning starters, he will have a pretty inexperienced team next year and they will endure a losing season.

I think he bolts in a couple of years after the going gets tough.

I also think Spurrier is retiring after the 09 season.

I think Fulmer might be gone after one more bad season (6-6).

Fulmer sneaked in front of Florida and Georgia this year. If he gets shut out of the east for the next two years, he will be gone.

    Spurrier will certainly retire soon.

Petrino will be gone as soon as someone is dumb enough to offer him. There is a correlation between desperation and stupidity. He should be gone within 2-3 years but probably to another SEC school.

Saban will not be given time by the bama fan base to truly rebuild that program. Regardless of next year, if he does not win 10 or at least the west in year 3, they will run him out of town.

The only potential long time threat in the conference is Meyer. Will he one day bolt for the NFL too?

The coach that can not adapt to the current model of SEC football is the coach in trouble....the coach that can not keep his kids out of trouble is a coach in trouble...the coach his players do not like and respect is the coach in trouble

Spurrier doesn't appear to "have it" or he needs a new strength and conditioning person, they fizzle more than any team I've watched

Saban will ALWAYS have to compete w/ Auburn for players and just that game in and of itself can cost a coach his job..then there's the fans..not all of them...just some...:nope:

Petrino...hmmm, should be interesting, but in the past Louisville has had no defense...that just won't work...the SEC has gotten used to and even adopted "Myers spread offense", throw and catch and the deep ball isn't that much of a threat when your prepared for it.. and the secondary and safteys of the SEC, for the most part, can play w/ the Louville's of the world

Fulmer well...he'll get tired of bailing players out of jail

From the West I think Saban, frustration will boil over and he will quit.

From the East I think Spurrier, frustration again and he quits for another high profile payday.

Fulmer just lost Cutliffe as the best OC he has had in several years and Ainge was the only QB who played much over the past two seasons. I would not be surprised to see Tennessee go into another tailspin next year.

I really held my breath when Petrino left the Falcons. For a minute I was wondering if Tennessee had pulled the plug on Fulmer and had quietly gone after Petrino. Petrino at Tennessee would be scary.

I honestly don't know what other top coach South Carolina could obtain that would be all that much better than Spurrier.

I respectfully disagree on both points.

Spurrier has done a pretty decent job thus far and has made key recruiting inroads in areas of Florida, Georgia, and in areas formerly dominated by archrival Clemson. Spurrier remains one of the game's best offensive minds, but he'll need to make a couple of good moves on defense this season. His defense really wasn't bad this season until they lost Brinkley, their all-everything linebacker ... after that , they struggled to hold teams down. USC's game against Georgia was solid, and UGA is a bellweather indicator for the program.

Additionally, Spurrier's '07 recruiting class was solid, particularly in the area of linemen. Another good class this season puts Spurrier in good position relative to where he was when he inherited the program, and remember ..... Spurrier has had several opportunities to leave for the proverbial "greener pastures."

JMO, but I don't think Petrino will last much longer. His integrity has been tarnished - fairly or unfairly - by the recent Falcons nonsense. It's already being used against him on the recruiting trail, and Nutt has moved rapidly to maintain relationships he has with coaches in the states of Arkansas and Texas, two traditional Arkansas recruiting territories. If Petrino can't win the recruiting competition ...... well, you know. i could easily see petrino moving to the Pac-10 within a couple of years.

I agree with you about Spurrier. If Petrino stays there long enough he could build the program up to where it would be a genuine contender for the conference championship.

I guess I have a different take on Saban at bama. Ordinarily I would agree with those who say that bama fans won't tolerate Saban too long if he doesn't win big. The problem is bama has dug themselves a huge hole and crawled in it with Saban. They have him on a pedestal. They have bet the farm on him at the highest levels of the PTB. As a result, they can't afford to run him off. They would have to eat crow for years and the program would suffer immensely. Their only hope would be for Saban to move on to a better job" which is likely considering his ego. JMHO.

As I've said all along, if Saban doesn't win the border war with Georgia, he will not be able to take Alabama to the promised land.

    Per the Scout board:
"But Alabama kept recruiting Glenn hard, and eventually, after a visit to Tuscaloosa in the summer, Glenn became interested in the Tide. Georgia has been fighting Alabama a lot of late. The Dawgs and Tide have both focused their recruiting attention on Nick Williams, Toby Jackson and Ben Jones – just to name a few."

Saban kind of snubbed Ben Jones at first not realizing that Jones was open to playing Center.

Jones and Owens are both Alabama O linemen going to Georgia.

Fulmer has been around a while. Just makes me wonder how much longer he can stick around. This year might have bought him a little time but he's going to have to follow up or I think Tennessee fans will want someone else.
I'm not sure about Spurrier. Maybe he can eventually turn things around there. But if he keeps being frustrated there I wonder if he might eventually look towards another bigger program.
I don't know if Saban will be able to live up to expectations. But with as much money invested in him he could be a bit hard to get rid of.
I don't think Petrino will go down, more like he will eventually find a bigger program to go to. But unless he has an outstanding season in 2008 I think he's stuck in Arkansas for a couple of years. He could stick around a bit because I do think he wants to give the SEC a try. His contract keeps him from going to another SEC West team so if he left Arkansas but wanted to stay in the SEC he'd have to go over to the SEC East.
