I knew the SEC would be down this year. I didn't think it would be THAT bad. :dis:

    ...Here's to a rapid rebound!

There are 8 SEC bowl tie-ins.. correct? There are 8 bowl eligible SEC teams... however, two of those teams are in BCS games including one in the National Championship game.. That does not mean the SEC is down, just means the teams are all so closely packed with the same records that none of them will fall down to those crappy bowl games.

I need to think about that logic. Can I use half my Happy Hour?

Off hand, I think it has to do with Tennessee being down this year and losing to 4-8 Wyoming and 4-6 UCLA.... Mississippi State not being able to beat anyone with "Tech" in their name, and Arkansas and Auburn simply just being worse than last year.

One could easily argue that Florida, Bama and Ole Miss are better than last year... other than that, everyone else appears about the same or down a tad. When you can't fill your bowls with your teams playing 4 nonconference games.... there's a good chance it's because someone didn't play so well.....

(We have the same problem filling bowl slots in the Big Ten this year... and it certainly isn't because the league was somehow better....)

Auburn is one win away from eligibilty and knocking the SEC CG loser out of a BCS at large.
Which would leave the SEC with 8 teams that are eligible and not in BCS games, which would fill the allotment.

Once again, if Auburn beat Alabama, Jawja would likely go to the BCS if they beat GT.

    Maybe not.
    10 teams make it
6 BCS conf champs, and 4 at large

the Big XII is all but guaranteed 2 teams
    Utah is probably getting in
USC will get an at large if OSU wins the conference

That leaves one spot open For Ohio St., Boise St, or UGA.

With UGA being the lowest ranked of the 3, so that's not a sure bet that they get the nod.

OSU is idle, BSU has to play Fresno State, and UGA has to play a ranked GT team. GT will have a chance to move up. No way a bowl game selects BSU over the other two...and between OSU and UGA, it is likely that UGA wins that due to the SEC being more popular right now.

right, no one would be interested in giving BSU a shot to duplicate the magic from two years ago.
no bowl would ever be interested in having their name repeated on NAtional TV every day for a month afterwards.
