I think you are right about this - he probably would have ended up hurt....and his style doesn't fit the field conditions. You don't take a Porsche four wheelin', now do ya? :geaux:
Ed Zachary! If I was head coach, RS would not have played. He is our future and I'm not going to have him blow out his knee in a bowl game in his Freshman season.
Actually, you are much less likely to get injured on a soft field. Knee injuries occur because the ground does not give when a player plants or turns. When the ground is soft, the chance of leg injuries decreases drastically. Now on the other hand, the ability to change direction, and shift gear also decreases drastically.
You do if your normal four wheeler has only one wheel left with a flat tire. And you would have lost just like Les and company. I can at least understand your reasoning for not playing RS if you were the coach. But let's cut the bull$hi*, we both know that probably didn't even enter Miles' head. Because there were many games with splendid weather this year where he barely got in and we could have used him (Florida, etc.). And since your name is SabanFan, Saban always hated that mentality of thinking. He used to say that if you coached like that, you'd never develop players at the pace you would like because players can get hurt in basically any situation. He always believed in getting his best athletes on the field early and often and that is showing in a big way at Bama. Again, I only mention this because of your name. I'm not bringing up Saban just to bring him up. Trindon looked pretty good on the field. RS could have too. He might not have done anything, but who knows???
Well, that is about as good a reason as I have seen and may have been the coaches' thought process. Have to keep the big picture in mind, although you could argue that for a few other players that did play, too.
 your right Crowton needs to go, Chavis needs to go & Les Miles needs to go. I can asure you that if Russell Shepard would have went to any other collage such as florida or alabama they would have had at least 10 to 15 plays set up in there play book just for Russell Shepherd. If shepherd would ask for a transfer i wouldn't blame him Les Miles run't his red shirt season. LSU needs to spend the money to buy out there contract's.. and write it off as being stupid for hiring them.. this may seem a bit harsh.. oh well call it taking pride in the purple and gold, were not use to loosing....
I understand the frustrations and not going to tell you differently but I wanted to point out that LSU played more True Freshman than Bama and UF this year. Also hearing a rumor and supposedly it is from Bobby Hebert so take it FWIW. He said Shep missed the curfew the night before the game. However, some fans are saying they saw him line up as a WR for the 1st play of the 2nd QTR. I haven't checked to see if he was indeed in or not.
If that was the reason it seems Les would have said something vague about Shep "breaking team rules" in his post-game presser instead of his now usual "we just couldn't get him in the game" explanation. I also tend to doubt he lined up at WR, because the announcers would have definitely noticed it and said something about him. Edit: I can confirm he was NOT in on that play. First play of the 2nd quarter was a 5 WR set with Lafell and Toliver on the right side, and Dickson, Holliday, and a player wearing #20-something (#25?, can't tell for sure from the camera angle) on the left. It was on 3rd and very long, and the next play was a FG.
