What about Jeff Bower??? Got the shaft from USM...good Defensive mind...hmm.....thinkin' about this last night:huh:
He's been at GT since '02 and his defense is usually ranked high nationally, despite their woeful offense that forces his defense play a lot of minutes. That woeful offense has also kept them from winning more games during that span. It's scary to think what he could do with our talent.
Pretty well respected guy in terms of defenses. tOSU DC in 2000 (23rd in Total Defense); UNC DC in 2001 (15th in Total Defense) before heading to GaTech (50th his first season, 20th his second, 12th his third, 22nd his fourth, 27th last year) before coaching his group to 11th this year with 1/4th the talent on LSU's current defense. He's very well-respected in coaching circles and some consider him head coach material. He's supposedly a bit gruff and not media friendly, so I don't see him as a head coach at a big time school soon. Perhaps he's the type content to play his role in something bigger, but who knows. LSU could do a lot worse. A lot worse. IIRC, his area of expertise is the secondary which IMO is will be the area that needs the most coaching next year on defense. He coaches an aggressive, attacking defense much like Saban and Pellini did. Early reports are that Tenuta told Paul Johnson that he's simply ready to move on from GaTech. He's the interim HC for GaTech's Boal Game on the 31st, so I doubt he takes another job until then. Maybe we will find out before the BCS CG, but I doubt it. I'm sure Miles will be too busy with the game ahead to worry about interviewing/hiring a DC who's rumored to already be interested. LSU right now must be an attractive job for him. Lot's of support. A decent paycheck. Plenty of talent and a head coach that pretty much lets the DC be the master of the defensive domain.
And its going to get his name into head coaching jobs even more than it already is, much like it did Pelini. Its a good job to take for his near future(especially right now, since the only jobs open are UCLA and SMU, considering WVU is only looking at guys with West Virginia connections)
