Now that we know Pelini will be coaching our defense for the title game, basically extending his stay at LSU thru Jan 7, 2008, when does LSU approach other coaches and begin to try and sign someone? Is that going to be a bit uncomfortable for this university and Pelini to start the process before the title game? Will he take offense to that? I have no clue as to how we will handle this situation. Defensive players that we are still trying to recruit want to know who their DC is going to be. And I think we are still trying to land at least 3 defensive players to round out our recruiting efforts for 2008.
thanks for CLAIRifying that :thumb: so we won't hear a word about it until then? I would think it would be close to impossible to keep it under wraps.
it may not stay hidden. I'll let the cat out of the bag. They want that GT guy that everyone loves. If he doesn't become the next GT head coach (he's a candidate), the consensus is that he will be kinda bitter and tell them to shove it. but anyway, they obviously realize how important it is to get someone sooner, rather than later. what LSU has working for it is that Bo wasn't a real big recruiter, so there weren't many guys he recruited himself, so in that respect, they can take their time a little bit. The dark-horse is Orgeron, too, b/c while Miles don't like the dude, he loves the fact that he is an animal recruiting.
He never was the "DC" at USC, b/c Carroll doesn't give that title to anyone, but he always ran the defense out there. He was the associate head coach.
Well, for what it's worth, USC's best defenses have come AFTER Orgeron left (the past 2 seasons). Not sure if anyone remembers USC's weak point (if you can call it that) was that their defense was not that great. It had holes. I think I would pass on Orgeron.
it's a double-edged sword. a lot of times when you're up 21+ points, you get soft and often give up more pts, yards, etc... Their defense had a ton of talent. Hell, they had both Tatupu and Polamalu. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/teamsched?teamId=30&year=2003 it was really ,really solid this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/teamsched?teamId=30&year=2004
i figured the "big lead, play soft" card was coming out there definitely is some legitimacy to that argument....but from what I have seen the past 2 years, that's a dominating defense.....you could not say that about the Orgeron led defenses of USC in 03-05.
If it doesn't happen by the end of next week, it probably won't happen until after the NC game. Miles has had some time this week and next to talk with candidates. After that, preparations for the NC game cranks up and will leave little time to hunt for a DC. But, I don't think it's critical to name a DC right now for recruiting. Miles signing a new contract and winning an NC are all we need for recruiting this year.
