Note: I do not want this reply to go on record as defending the poster who which you are replying to.

However, I cannot read this reply and not think how ridiculous this is.

Coaches on all tiers, both successful and not so much, receive criticism. Its part of the job. If a coach is wanting to turn away from millions of dollars and an opportunity like the one in Baton Rouge because of fan criticism, he is a pussy and LSU doesn't need him. A coach who belongs in the upper tier has confidence in his abilities and is coming to LSU because he knows he can win, and winning is the best medicine for criticism.

LSUDad, who has connections to info in the coaching circles, says that LSU staff positions are held in high regard. I get the picture from LSUDad, that when a position is open, there are no shortage of applications submitted. So if what he is saying is true, coaches out there with the knowledge of how the fan base can be, are still wanting to come to Baton Rouge.

    So what's another excuse?

It was known that Les interviewed a couple coaches. I posted this a couple days ago:

FYI: Clancy Pendergrast will join the 49'ers staff as inside linebackers coach.

This is one guy Les had talked with.

When the Denver coaches were told to look around, some did. Former LSU player, Tyke Tolbert, who was on the staff with Head Coach Fox as his WR coach didn't want to move from Denver. Fox told him that he could have the WR job with the Bears. Tyke called a friend I know, asked him to talk with Kubiak about putting in a word for him with an interview. This wasn't the only option Tyke had, but for him and his family, this is what he wanted. I often talk about the right fit, family, no worry about the money, etc. This was one.

An yes, all too often a coach will contact another coach on a staff, or just a good friend that has worked with a Head Coach to put in a good word, etc. Many times these names never get out.

I can't give out names as to who many times till the ink is dry, but all too often names are thrown into a hat for an opening. LSU is a great job with great pay, and hard to figure, coaches like working for Les. Les has his ways, who doesn't?

As for letting the word out, years back nick was fixing to hire a position coach, the night before, I told a local sports guy who he was gonna hire. The next morning at the press conference the Sport guy asked nick if he had hired the guy yet. Nick told him that he had just got off the phone with the offer to the coach. From that time forward nick thought his office was bugged.

As for the Sports guy, I never gave him any info again.

who were these big names that LSU had declined for the DC job. the kevin steele hire seems to go against this entire theory.

Not really, if you have a good job, do you want everyone knowing that you are looking for a better job?

There were 4-5 names that came out, Clancy's was one. Was he waiting for a Pro job? Did he tell Les this?

All too often the only guys that let a name out are the agents, trying to get a bump in pay. One coach had his name linked to a Pro job, it never was, but the school bumped his pay up anyway.

The fact that Leslie will not be here in two or three seasons, might have kept the big names away this time.

Les Miles is a third tier coach. Saban, Meyer, and Carrol are FIRST tier coaches.

Carroll, who is no longer coaching in college, who "threw away" the Super Bowl the other night and won his MNC's with players on a payroll. That, Carroll?

Les has better odds than most for being here in two or three seasons.

His contract is ends in 2019.
