@red55 Ran across this on Coachingsearch.com Some takeaways: -- Will Muschamp's defenses have never been bad as a head coach or defensive coordinator and that is a good thing for Auburn who is bringing him back to run their defense. The 2010 Texas defense is a low point, but even then that defense was in the top half of all FBS programs. -- Muschamp coached defenses that went to five BCS bowl games in 2001, 2003, 2008, 2009 and 2012. Not surprisingly, each defense he coached was an elite unit with the exception of the 2001 LSU defense, but even that group was in the top third of scoring defenses. -- 2010 and 2013 are the only years that Muschamp was not part of a team that went to a bowl game, and even in those years his defenses were still in the top half of the country. The 2013 Florida defense was not that far off from the 2001 LSU defense which won the Sugar Bowl. -- Muschamp's defenses have been in the top 30 five times for total takeaways, and in the top-10 twice. Four of those five teams went to a BCS bowl game. Turning the ball over is not a strength in his defenses, only four times has a Muschamp-led defense finished in the top-20 in takeaways. During his 13 years as a defensive coordinator or head coach, Muschamp's defenses had an average ranking of 52nd nationally. -- The scoring defense during Muschamp's time at Florida ranked better nationally (15.75) than both the scoring defenses he coached at LSU (17.25) and Texas (26.33). -- Years in which Muschamp's defense were top-30 in takeaways they all went to a BCS bowl game. The one exception came in 2008 when Texas won the Fiesta Bowl and that year the Longhorns were one of the worst in the nation at takeaways and were 120th in the country.
That was Nick's defense. Muschamp was learning the job, but Nick made the calls. Just my feeling. I never thought he was a top coach.
Jury is still out on whether he is a good DC or not IMO. He definitely doesn't appear to be HC material.
If I'm a jury, I'm still out. I didn't know Nick was calling defensive schemes/sets...old age memory I guess.
I also think he is someone who could end up exactly where Pellini is where not dialing it back a notch starts negatively affecting his career.
It's fun we can have opinions about other coaches that are not at LSU and people are nice to each other!!! Happy holidays!
