I don't believe anyone can fault Foley for attempting to get the buyout reduced—it's good business sense. If this ends with Foley moving on to another candidate it brings questions to mind. With the cache Florida has developed, could his approach be considered arrogant? It's a fine line when one tries to decipher arrogance versus confidence. I do believe the CBS reports sums this story up well, "So I think the lesson here is that these things are normally done in a far more secretive manner for a reason."
True. I have to wonder what McElwain thinks about all of this. If asked I suspect Coach Mac, and any future candidate (assuming this falls apart,) would use the hackneyed phrase, "it's business."
From North Dallas Forty: "Every time I call it a game, you call it a business. And every time I call it a business, you call it a game."
@furduknfish What Sexton did with Boom's contract (he's getting his full contract amount with or without a new employer) is about the only thing that could have been better. As it stands, if CJM were fired this week instead of being interviewed for another job, he'd be banking over 7.8 million for the remainder of his contract (through 2018.) There's some interesting language in his contract in regard to raises based on conference affiliations, etc. It starts on page three about halfway down.
