That was my thought. We're talking Florida here, not UAB or San Diego State. $7.5 is a short wall to climb.
With Muschamp out at Fla, LSU is going after a few of their verbals. Muschamp could help LSU out after all. LSU was in on three players at one time, two OT's Mike Horton and George Brown. Also Ath Derrick Dillon. Word out verbal commit to Fla, George Brown will come to LSU this weekend for a visit.
How bout ole Gerald Willis acting like his mom over there in Florida. Dude is hitting opponents out of bounds when he isn't even playing.
It's not as simple as saying "$7.5 is a short wall to climb." Jimmy Sexton did his job when it came to the way Muschamp's contract is set up. The majority of the time when a coach is released their buyout is offset by the amount of money they'll receive at their next job. In Boom's case he's getting his full contract amount regardless of where, or if, he's employed. It's not a lump sum payment. His buyout is around 6.3 million and with three years left so he's looking at getting 2.+ per year from UF. Assuming Coach Mac's contract isn't negotiated down and just using a hypothetical figure of 2.5million per year for the new coach...when we put this together we're looking at UF spending 12.5-13 million next season just on the head coaching position. Roper has two years left on his contract which was paying him 600K per year. Then there's the rest of the staff Muschamp had in place. In the end, Florida can afford all of this. Even more so now with the SECN money they'll be receiving in the summer. However, a coaching change that ends up costing a school's athletic department approximately 15 million? IF that happened under the 2013's fiscal year it would have taken practically every cent of profit their athletic department managed. (On a side note: People around the Auburn program cited their finances as one of the reasons they didn't release their baseball coach last season. When the curtain is pulled back it doesn't revel that to be the case. They could have dipped into their financial reserves—just as TN has had to do these last few years. AU firing Ellis Johnson, who has two years left on his contract, and then going after a high profile DC is likely going to force them to dip into their reserves. That's what the reserves are there for, in a sense...)
How much does Auburn's baseball coach make? Gotta be a drop in the bucket. Even at LSU the baseball coach is paid less than the women's basketball coach, which doesn't make a lick of sense to me considering the amounts of revenue each sport brings in.
I read once that Nikki Caldwell was making over $1 Million. That doesn't make any sense at all. LSU baseball makes a profit while I'm sure that women's basketball loses money.
Are you sure about that? Caldwell was in the midst of her contract negotiations when Bama hired Curry from TTU. Curry took a pay cut and I recall looking over SEC women's coaches salaries at the time and I recall Caldwell's being a little less than double what Curry was scheduled to make: 400K per in salary as I recall. (I'd look it up but it'd be a pain to do so while I'm mobile.) FWIW, I do recall reading ticket sales for baseball were almost twice that of WBB.
