With opposing defenses crowding the line, IMO its a perfect way to exloit that situation. Use a fast back and we could force them to back off a little. Arkansas just made Georgia look stupid using that. Thoughts?
We ran it last week to Ware, but the pass was behind him and he stepped out of bounds on the 8. If the pass had been in stride, he would have scored.
You are right. I remember that play to Ware. That's the only time I can remember Crowton utilizing it since he's been here. I remember wishing he would let Trindon run it.
Yates from UNC threw a beautiful wheel route in their game as well. When thrown correctly, very difficult to defend.
A wheel route works against cover 2 if the playside safety is pulled away from the sideline by a threat over the deep middle. Basically, against cover 2 you attack the sidelines and the middle, because the safeties are at the hashes. Against cover 3 you attack the hashes and underneath because the safeties and a third defender (usually a corner) are wide and in the middle. A wheel route is also a natural progression from a simple bench route (out route, usually less than 7 yards). The reciever runs toward the sideline, if a pass isn't made by the end of the route, the reciever turns up field.
My memory is bad. What in particular are we talking about here? The pass to Ware last week or have we run it more than I remember?
