Living in Texas or Louisiana all of my life, roughly 90% of my friends/acquaintances are conservative. I just hear more from them than the other side. Also, I read some of the online newspaper publications (such as chron.com) and they are even worse. I just wish that the conservative side would attack Obama a little more intelligently and become a little more aligned in their views.

I still remember vividly trying to decide between GW and Gore. I was leaning towards GW because I just didn't like Gore. Bush was on Letterman and said something to the effect of "I just feel it's destiny that I will become President". Then they talked about terrorists a little (obviously before 9/11) and he talked tough and basically challenged them to "mess with 'Merica"). I instantly felt that it probably was destiny for him to become President but that it may be a bad thing. I defended GW most of his Presidency because of all the over the top criticism he received. I think he tried his best but made some mistakes.

If anyone can find that clip from GW on Letterman, please post as I'd love to watch it again.

I think you're being sarcastic but will say that many of the discussions on this site are educational. Red and others usually make good arguments from one side and then there are good counter points. Sometimes I find myself going back and forth with my opinions and I enjoy that aspect (although I need to learn more to stop this constant flip flopping).

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

Would be how the suPreme court interpreted it. Kinda like Obamacare or saying a state can't enforce the law and arrest illegals but can allow a city to outlaw firearms in their own homes. I know no one is gonna try and take our gun rights or ammo.

    i wasnt being sarcastic.

in baton rouge most of my friends were conservative, but i knew some kids wiith liberal parents that were professors at LSU. now i am almost the only person who i know who doesnt vote democrat. i know a couple catholics that are right wing but we dont have much in common. in new york i am like the local lunatic that doesnt love obama.

in any election all you need to to do is vote for the guy tha says he wil reduce the size of government. he will be lying but at least he pretends to stand for something other than making us into greece/spain.

serious question: are you socially liberal?

In other words, you don't strike me as the type that gives a fuck about moral issues like guns and abortion.

You live in NYC. Everyone is liberal there.

i dont care about abortion, guns, gay rights or any of that crap. those are issues that people care about to create an image of themselves that fits in with the culture they identify with. economic/tax policy and foreign policy are the only real issues.

Yes, only people in the Deep South care about those issues.

I have another question for you as a New Yorker. Do you see a correlation between the statistically uneducated states (MS, LA, AL, etc) and the way that they vote? In other words, MS, AL, LA are all at the bottom of the barrel in income, education, teen pregnancy, etc and they are also the reddest states. It seems to me that if they don't understand something, they put it in the hands of Jesus Christ. If you ask a person from Alabama why a plant is green, he's likely to say that it's because Jesus Christ made it that way. If you ask a person from New York, he'll tell you about photosynthesis and chlorophyll. The "Southern Strategy" is to get the stupid southern states to vote on moral issues. Do you agree with any of that?

Yes, stupid people are religious and uneducated and religious people vote republican. Stupid people care about social issues and the republicans are on the religious side of social issues. In new York everyone cares about gay rights and is so fucking proud of their gay friends and they think you are a dick if you don't care either way about gays.

Swing voters vote based on personality.
