This sure comes up a lot, but yea, if he commits soon enough then we're going to land him. But I don't think we hold a scholarship for him if two other guys commit first.
Hey what's the deal ? I had 4.6 speed in high school. Oh, yeah ... but I played strong safety ! At WR simply having pure speed isn't enough and guys who aren't lightening fast can still be very good at the position. I've never seen Ricky Dixon play. Eric Martin was not a "burner" and for that matter neither was Josh Reed. Good receivers who don't have blazing speed usually have two very important qualities: (1) sure hands; and (2) the ability to separate from the DB. I've seen alot of people high on Dixon. We'll find out if he commits.
EXACTLY! I can't tell you how right you are... Hass the WR at Oregon St. is NOT a great talent, and he DOES NOT have nearly the athletic ability as our own X. Carter, but he is world's better, b/c he knows how to run his routes correctly, where as Carter doesn't yet.
I recall a former tiger (former highschool friend) that wasnt all that fast but he ended doing pretty well for himself and LSU... Michael Clayton anyone? He was Christian Life's QB, DB, and WR. Kid was a GREAT athlete. Ran about a 4.6... 4.7... but he sure had a good head on his shoulders.
You sure know how to win me over! (not that I was "on the fence" with Dixon) :thumb: but.....Michael Clayton has become by all-time favorite Tiger receiver! ...and, if Dixon possesses a fraction of what Clayton had/has, then Dixon will do great in LSU! purple and gold.
When it comes to receiver speed is important but it ranks third in what you look for. 1.) Good Hands 2.) Can run good routes and get separation 3.) speed 4.) toughness
