If LSU had totally dominated every opponent to date their ranking right now would be:

  1. 4

    50 vote(s)
    72.5%
  2. 3

    10 vote(s)
    14.5%
  3. 2

    5 vote(s)
    7.2%
  4. 1

    4 vote(s)
    5.8%

Obviously losing in the beginning of the season is where you want to lose since you have the rest of the season to turn it around... ie, OSU, OU, USC... but regardless... if we win against Florida we'll move up to 3rd and likely Bama and UT will fight for 1 and 2.
If we lose the game our drop in the rankings will reflect how badly we lose. If we stay within 3 then I think we don't fall out of the top 10... but seeing as how ESPN hates us and Lou wants to move ND up... we'll fall further more than likely.
Regardless of how UT plays, if Bama defeats Ole Piss convinvingly and we defeat Florida, I think we'll see Bama #1 and us #3.

HOW we might lose to UF will make a difference. If we play a good, crisp game and show that we belong in the top ten then we'll likely stay in there. Most of our doubters have doubted us because we have to "find a way to win". If we play consistent and disciplined football but the number one team in the country shows WHY they're No. 1, we shouldn't fall far.

If we play sloppy and it's close, we'll fall to the teens and people will begin to question Florida's legitimacy at No. 1.

So what you're saying is that "how" the game is won or lost also plays a role in where the two teams playing the game end up being ranked? :thumb:

In the end guys, the polls are a popularity contest and voters take more than who won or lost into consideration, especially since there are numerous teams with the same record. That's where quality of play, and styles points come into play. Polls affect bowls and championships.

If you want to play in the best bowls and possibly play for a championship, you have to do more than just win in today's college football. Like it or not, that's the way it is.

Agree if you're Missouri or Kansas or Boise State, etc . For this LSU team, 13 ugly wins means BCSCG.

You truly are a legend in your own mind, SF.

YOU are the one with the short memory (comes with age, I believe) if you think LSU fans were the only ones that remembered that we not only beat VT...we curbstomped them. ESPN was pumping that out leading up to the selection...and I guarantee it made a difference in who was selected.

    you're grasping.

blowing all your opponents away is much better than skating by, with two teams that have the same record.

In fact, some act like it's still relevant. I realize my theory is unpopular. It's what I believe, even if I'm wrong. And debating Izzy is good clean fun.

I agree and want to take this one step further. If two teams played the exact same schedule and one skated by while the other dominated, it is logical to make an educated guess that the later is the better team. One can not be more certain without head to head, but even that isn't 100% definite. Teams play different on different days - there are a lot of variables.

That said, I am a proponent of educated guessing and then supplementing with head to head in the realm of 1a (I can't bring myself to call it FBS) college football.

My point was, don't declare victory in a debate you've clearly lost. I agree it was a good debate...but it was game, set, and match to Izzy after you talked about when you lose...and he pointed out who lost last.

This is the only part I disagree with you on

If we win 13 ugly games the championship is already ours...... meaning if we are 13-0 its done. and heading to pasadena
