Obviously you're looking for us to tell you it wouldn't matter and that we would still be #4. Which is the case, btw.
Put this poll up again next week after we beat a Tebow-less UF team by 1 point. Or after we win the SECC game (with one loss to AU) and Texas plays Boise St in the MNC. I am not a negatiger, but come on! Winning with authority can sometimes put you into a better bowl at the end of the year.
The real question is how far we'll drop if we happen to lose a game. Thus far the Tigers have failed, rightly or wrongly, to impress many of their fans and the voters in the polls. Most people feel the talent on the team isn't being reflected in the play on the field regardless of the score. So LSU now has a reputation of being overrated. Since most voters hold to the unwritten rule that a team isn't jumped until they lose, the Tigers maintain their position in the polls. But if the Tigers lose, it will give the voters the freedom to rank them where ever they wish and that's when the Tigers will plummet in the polls. The voters are sitting there waiting for the chance to rank LSU where they think they should be ranked, and most voters feel they should be ranked MUCH lower. All because of the way LSU has played. Look at many of the talking heads on ESPN, most of whom are voters. When they give their top 5 every week, LSU is rarely there. That's the problem with playing down to the competition. If the Tigers lose, they will drop far in the polls hurting their chances to move back up into position later in the season. In college football, perception does count along with the wins. How you wins matters too. You can like it or not or agree with it or not, but HOW you win games in college football is almost as important as actually winning it, and LSU has done a very poor job at that this year. That is why you see coaches politic-ing at the end of the year as they jockey for position.
i think how we would drop if we lose would depend on the manner in which we lost, and if Superman plays. If Superman plays and we get blown out, we drop far, if he doesn't play and we get blown out, we drop further. If he plays and we win, they will say he wasn't 100 percent and we may just jump to 3 and UF drops to 4. If he doesn't play and we win, small, i would think they would leave us at 4 and drop UF to 3.
You get the SabanFan Grouch Trophy for stupid thread of the day. If LSU had beaten the spread and routed every team so far, LSU would be ranked . . . #4!
Brett said it best. Winning ugly is not the same as simply winning. The drop will be a long one if we lose, especially if it's by more than the spread.
We beat Florida w/Tebow, they'll say he wasn't 100% We beat Florida w/o Tebow, they'll say it's because he didn't play Either way, LSU won't get the respect for beating the #1 ranked team We lose, and it'll be national news of how we were beat with a second ranked qb, in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night! They never give LSU props, even when they deserve it
I disagree, when you play cupcakes, that may be true, but when you play the big boys, a W is a W. But i see where you guys are going, you are talking about Style Points. The system that we have unfortunately does require you to beat the hell out of inferior teams. I don't think it will matter with us this season because we have a rough schedule.
