Looking through Scout's Class of 2009 prospects, I began to get excited about the amount of recruits that are considering LSU. So I looked a little more closely, and it looks like the recent national exposure for our program is beginning to pay off big time:

Out of the top 27 Quarterbacks they list, only two are "committed" at this time. One to Miss St and one to Minnesota. Out of the remaining 25, EVERY one of them lists LSU as one of their schools they're interested in.

Out of top 34 Wide Receivers listed, ALL 34 indicate interest in LSU.

It's the same thing with RB's, Oline, Dline, Cornerbacks, Safeties, Linebackers, and even the kickers! Unless Scout just arbitrarily writes that these guys are interested in LSU, it looks like EVERY top prospect is considering the Tigers - what a great chance at an unbelievable class.

    Any thoughts?

The year after Florida won the NC, they finished #3 in recruiting.

The year after Texas won the NC, they finished #5.

The year after USC won it, they finished #1.

The year after LSU won it (in '03), we finished #2 - behind USC who also claims a NC that year.

The year after Ohio St won it, they finished #5.

All this seems to point to great recruiting success the year after a NC. However, these rankings are not unusual for these programs as they are typically near the top anyway. I'm not sure any real connection can be drawn.

I think winning an NC has somewhat of an effect on recruiting. We're hearing it from some of the recruits right now, as well as the QB Garrett who already signed with MSU. Last year at this time, I don't think we get the same reaction from this kid.

It's not significant but it not's irrelevant either.

Wait til we win the third one in the BCS era, in next three years.

As much as I don't care for the NFL, I'd think not only the players we're sending and more importantly the level of play they're getting there with would be a big factor too.

Dang, I hate to agree with you, it's much more fun to push your buttons, but that is exactly how I feel about it too.

It gives the school visibility, but it gives the COACH so much credibility. If Miles did not have a NC on his resume, Meyer or Saban or Spurrier (come on, not Fulmer), could say to a recruit, look, I know what it takes to go to the top, so and so doesn't. They can't say that about Miles any more. He knows what it takes, he has proven it. If you're a La. kid, you don't have to go somewhere else to contend for a title. If you live somewhere else and they are not going to contend for a title, you can come to LSU, and you'll play for an honest decent man called Les Miles, who builds a quality team spirited environment.

I think the credibility it gave Miles is the biggest asset.

That's Tiger Rag the LSU section of Scout.com which only lists athletes interested in LSU, that isn't the main recruiting page. Here is the national page...http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=4&pid=10&yr=2009

Thanks for shining some light on that! I didn't realize where on the site I was. I had followed a link from TF to the page I read. Makes much more sense now... I should have realized that no program would get that kind of interest.

Still things are looking really good, Miles is getting most of the kids he wants and he and his staff have shown that they are pretty good at evaluating talent. I think getting so many top recruits committed early will give the staff a chance to focus their attention on a smaller group of uncommitted players they are after.

Well there is no doubt I am seeing many more big time players having "interest" in LSU. In rivals top 50 alone, LSU has 12-15 or so players interested, I think last year we had only about 6-8.
