There's no question about Miles' tremendous contributions to this program. The "won with Saban's players" thing is beyond old and has been thoroughly discredited, and those people need to give Les his proper due. It could be that Miles has just had a bad last couple of seasons, happens to every coach. I do wonder about the quality of assistant coaches we've had lately. I understand the logic behind Malleveto, but with Crowton, Stud and McCarthy all failing to pull their weight in recent years, Les is going to have to earn every bit of that $4M paycheck this season. And for all the talk about how the bar has been raised, I think by and large people have kept reasonable year-to-year expectations. I do worry a little bit that fans are beginning to settle for merely being competitive. I don't want to be just competitive with the big boys in the SEC jungle, I want to beat them, soundly. I want our team to go out there every Saturday night with the confidence that they can beat any team they play against, even if their coach happens to be Urban Meyer or Nick Saban.
reading comprehension skills, much? what i said was that i don't care if we lose to teams like alabama and florida in the same season as long as it doesn't happen every season. there is no way in hell that a team is going to come along and be able to beat the top tier in the SEC every season. even the years in which LSU won national titles we have had problems with teams like florida and auburn and tennessee or whoever else is at the top at any given time. :insane:
Bound to happen now that teams play a 12-game regular season slate instead of 11. A lot of it also has to do with today's college football hiring landscape, where top college coaches' salaries are approaching Jamarcus-like proportions. Fans are literally paying now more than ever to support their programs, and that naturally brings with it the expectation of a higher return on investment. In LSU's case it also has to deal with the fact that the big regular-season signature win for the program over the last 2 years was beating a Georgia team that proceeded to collapse on itself. This whole thing gets turned around once LSU starts beating good teams again.
Sorry if I misunderstood, but the way you typed it was confusing. I thought you meant the overall conference record. Now that I know what you mean I agree with you. I know I am hard on Les Miles, but even I can't ask for more than that.
If Miles doesn't get us back to rotating wins against UF, Bama, Ole Miss, Ark he will be gone. Whether we are having 9+ win seasons or not. Especially if UF and Bama continue to beat us. Ya gotta be able to keep pace with your rivals. Many a coaches have been replaced for this very reason, go ask Carr or Tubby they'll confirm that.
if miles has to be replaced, miles has to be replaced. but it hasnt come to that. at least not yet. imo. however, the thought of alleva picking a new coach scares the hell out of me!!!!
we haven't had trouble with auburn for a while. not the case with arkansas, and more recently, ole miss.
Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, but as JayB points out we haven't had much trouble with Auburn as of late. Now if they become a team we can't keep in the rotation of wins category then they will be added to that list as well. The Tigers and Miles need to be able to keep at least a rotating pace with all SEC foes and in some cases never or rarely lose to them. Vandy and UT can both be trap games for us this yr. UT is looking to improve and a win against us would make a definate statement for them, and Vandy is usually pretty good at the beginning of the season.I don't think we will lose these games, but they could be a bit scarey if our team isn't completely together. This season doesn't afford us any wiggle room to try and pull things together. We need to come out of the gates strong and with a completely unified winning attitude. From there we can strive to only be better. Our first 5 games will define our season. We go 5-0 or 4-1 and things could be looking really good, we go 3-2 or worse and it is going to be a very long season, and a very short rope for Miles.
