yes, you are correct. USC does not have enough schollies to give to end up #1, not many seniors on that team (ala the 2004 LSU Tiger team)
I think USC have 20 to give out......my question is, if they have enough 5 *'s with 20, can they pass us? I know it's not about having the #1 class and player development is important but man I'd like to see LSU finish #1. I post in the USC forum a lot and many of them are really cool with me but I'd love to have the bragging rights. They think every 5* wants USC. Islstl, you are good with the numbers thing and I suck at math (That's why I majored in English) so I was hoping you or anyone else who follows recruiting close might know if it's possible statistically. I think we have a good chance to be #1 regardless.
That's pretty much BS. First off, scout isn't going to change their rankings to please LSU fans. Secondly, scout admitted they did have some trouble getting some film and evaluations on some LA players, but that was taken care of as Sonny got them a lot of film on the guys he thought they needed to re-evaluate and they've done the work needed. Third, all of those evals were done before the US Army game, and some of the LSUn players actually went down a little while others moved up. Fourth, scout always comes out with new rankings in January after they have had time to evaluate completely the senior seasons and the workouts at the All Star games. They've done a very good job on this after being way behind early. Fifth, I belong to both scout and rivals and have found both to be damn close in all of their ratings.
Jacob Hester was a 2 star I believe. So I wouldnt put a great deal of stock in number of stars and rankings. We need solid character, good teammates and exception skill. I dont care what we end up, so long we have a class of great players and classy young men...
If we get Jones, McKnight and Tolliver we will be #1. I think Texas and Tennessee have used up all of their schollys. If I am wrong somebody please correct me (like I had to ask).
That's true. The ranking system is helpful but it is also somewhat subjective. You have to be careful not to weigh it too heavily in grading recruites.
The opportunity to say we had the top ranked recruiting class in the nation by Rivals is a recruiting tool in itself for future years. While it doesn't have the same cache as championships on the field, it matters. It tells a recruit coming in that not only did we spank ND in the Sugar bowl and finish 3rd in the nation, but this type of winning will continue well into the future based on our future talent. Does anyone know how they calculate the total points on Rivals? Obviously 5 star players are worth the highest, but what is the conversion factor into total points?
