you can just search "unrest in Iran" and you'll find tons of links. also do an image search and you can see hundreds of pictures from all the protests and riots there in recent history i highly recommend the book "A Time to Betray: The Astonishing Double Life of a CIA Agent Inside the Revolutionary Guards of Iran" it follows the life of three Iranian childhood best friends who grew up before the Revolution (which only happened 33 years ago). the Revolution happened while they were college-aged (the author was actually in college at Southern Cal at the time), and then it follows their life and fate afterwards -- one becomes a fanatically Pro-Ayatollah and becomes a high-ranking member in the Revolutionary Guards (basically the "Gestapo" of Iran), another becames fanatically Anti-Ayatollah and becomes involved in the protest movement, and the third (the author) takes a middle road, his Pro-Ayatollah buddy hooks him up with a job in the Revolutionary Guards as a computer analyst -- he originally supported the Revolution but quickly turned against it and became a double-agent for the CIA it's one of the most eye-opening and disturbing books i've read (i was seriously disturbed for a couple days after reading it) before the Revolution, life was good and the reigning monarchy was in the process of Westernizing Iran. after the Revolution life in Iran (at least in Tehran) went to complete, absolute hell. Unrest in Iran is serious and widespread? you better believe it... nobody is happy in such an absolutely brutal and oppressive regime except for the oppressors. sure, like LaSalle said, those that stand up to the Regime are brutally squashed, and like Red said, they become martyrs to the cause what can we do? like Red said, we already use the CIA to fund and assist Iranians that want to topple the Regime -- you can find tons of articles on this we even use the CIA to do stuff like assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists (if you believe that) we can also invade Iran and overthrow the Regime similar to what we did in Iraq. but remember, our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost us 1 to 4 trillion dollars, and you've got to remember that Iran is 30% bigger than both Iraq and Afghanistan combined (Iran's population is 78 million, the combined population of Iraq and Afghanistan is 60 million) it'd be nice if we had a few trillion dollars to throw around to help out the Iranian people, but i don't think we're that rich... Americans only account for 4% of the people in the world
