#1 If either of the 2 computer polls that had Alabama #2 to have Oklahoma State #2 instead. Wolfe had to be very very close. The small difference there would have been remedied by Oklahoma beating Baylor 2 weeks ago. The difference with the computers cost Oklahoma State .0067. #2 If all voters would have placed Oklahoma State no lower than #3 on their ballots (what a shame anyone would put them 4th behind Stanford). There were 7 coaches and 17 Harris Poll voters that had them 4th (24 total voters). The difference there cost Oklahoma State .0038. This would have resulted in the following: Oklahoma State.... .9404 Alabama.............. .9386 It's conceivable that the Baylor/OU game impacted both the human voter outcome as well as the Wolfe poll. If Oklahoma State had beaten a #3 (1 loss) Oklahoma 44-10 instead of a #10 (2 loss) Oklahoma, then possibly nobody would have placed Oklahoma State 4th on their ballot. Even with the cushion Oklahoma State had here (.9404 to .9386), Oklahoma State could have even afforded a few voters (as many as 10 overall) to vote them #4. Baylor 45 Oklahoma 38 Ironically Oklahoma in the end may have cost Oklahoma State a shot at the national title. That's a bitter pill to swallow.
Thanks for the break down. It's water under the bridge now, but I still want to know who those coaches were.
I found the coaches. Thanks. Oh well...figured we wouldn't know about the Harris voters, nor do I really care about them... Graphic: How coaches voted in USA TODAY poll
Whatever you have planned for these coaches, make sure to put a bullet in a few of their knees for me.
It's expected. Some of those coaches ballots are whack though. They need to eliminate the coaches poll. One coach had UGA ranked #7, one had Wisconsin #16, one had Arkansas #4 (ahead of Okie State at #5).
