:geaux: However he gets used is fine with me whether at QB, WR or RB. The point is, WE JUST NEED TO UTILIZE SHEP'S TALENTS IN THE GAME. He's too good and too valuable as an offensive weapon to sit the bench, especially with JJ struggling. If you have weapons, use them and give the opposing "D" a lot of shyt to worry about. I'd be worried about Shep a lot if I was on an opposing defense. :LSU231:
Every highly touted freshman that ever was expected to come in and play right away. It just doesn't always work like that. Shepard needs to bulk up, learn the playbook, improve his passing and wait for his shot. It will come and it may come very soon. Les Miles has already earned his lesson about trying to appease a prima donna quarterback at the expense of the rest of the team. If Shepard isn't man enough to be a team player as a true freshman, I don't care if he leaves or not.
I would LOVE to see see Shepard in at QB with Scott and Trindon* as RB. Let's say a triple option type play where the hand off can go to Scott up the middle or Shepard and Trindon* running the option. (*For all the Trindon haters, put Keiland in this spot)
I have to admit as one of the resident sunshine pumpers this is the one thing that is just driving me nuts. I mean if our offense was firing on all cylinders I get it, no need to change something because we want to get Shep in the game. But when your offense is the worst in the league, why not. Whats the worst thing that could happen, we got 3 and out and punt. We got that down to a science already. Try misdirection anything, it cannot work any worse then what we have now. Sure I am not in practice and we dont see 1/100th of what our coaches do, but at some point you say. OK this isnt working either we are being out coached OR we dont have the right things going. Lets try something different. Again whats the risk we dont move the ball. I think we would be fine with that for the most part if they just tried different things.
The tribulation must be upon us...the end is near...repent !! Texas Tigers and I are BOTH questioning the coaches abilities. !
I do agree that Shepard has to bulk up to take the hits. He also needs to protect the ball a lot better than he does. He is too dangerous IMO though to be sitting the pine. He probably doesnt know the playbook too well as evidenced by that timeout. Still in all he could be put in at WR and RB where its much easier. Fact is the O is stalling and changes need to be made. Wrinkles added. Shepard is our most explosive player. We need someone with speed and moves in the game to make up for the OL. If Shep could get a few touches and break a few the D would have to respect him. Which could potentially pay dividends by opening up runs for Scott, Williams, and JJ or play action.
According to what I have heard, the main reason for no playing time is not because of his ability at the QB spot or other positions but the little mistakes that come with being a true freshman in big games. Such as getting the plays in, clock management, and costly timeouts that we have seen used when there is confusion. I think we should have taken that chance when nothing was working but I understand the rationale given every yard and timeout is crucial in the game this weekend.
:geaux: I hear ya Bhelm and agree. Bad thing is JJ is doing a lot of the same stuff right now, i.e confusion, getting plays off, etc. Hopefully the bye week will help get things on track and maybe we'll see JJ improve and more Shep the second half of the season. :LSU231:
