A couple of observations after last night. Had West Virgina not lost to Pitt, they easily had a team good enough to win the NC. This year could have been their best chance in a long time to win the NC. Do you guys think Rich Rod was trying to stick it to his team(so to speak) for letting him down against Pitt? Afterall, had West Virginia beat Pitt, they would be heading to the ship.
Of those choices you gave I'd most like to see USC vs. UGA but if I had my choice of any matchup it would be LSU vs. USC and let UGA play WV or OSU.
Not trying to be a pig, but can we have all three games start the 08 season? WV-USC GA playing the winner...
USC vs. Georgia would be huge. Since USC re-emerged as a national power under the direction of Pete Carroll, I think every college football fan has been waiting for to see USC play an SEC juggernaut like Georgia. So far, Carroll's USC program has played Auburn (2002 and 2003) and Arkansas (2005 and 2006). USC won all four games against the SEC. WV vs. Georgia would be intriguing as well. WV first started getting national respect when, led by freshmen White and Slaton, they upset SEC Champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl at the end of the 2005 season by a score of 38 to 35. Remember, that Georgia team had just beat down LSU 34-14 in the SEC Championship. Before that win, Rich Rodriguez's WV program never got any respect in the polls (that same year they beat Georgia, they spent the first half of the season NR in the Top 25, and in the four seasons before that under Rodriguez, WV finished in the Top 25 only once: in 2002 when they finished #25). Since that monumental win over Georgia, WV has been ranked in the Top 10 each and every single week except for one week this year when they were #13. WV vs. USC would not intrigue me at all compared to the above two match-ups.
Re: What matchup would you want? It's ridiculous to suggest something like that...a coach trying to get back at his players by leaving because they lost a football game. Personally, I'd like to see all of those matchups. This is the reason why the NCAA needs to go to a playoff, without any of those being played, no one can possibly predict who is the best of those teams.
Fair appraisal. Except WVU vs. USC. WVU's dynamic offense against the boys from USC. They are much more downhill oriented than ILL playcalled against USC, and I think it may have been one of the most exciting games, IMO
Agreed...It would be interesting to see if USC's defense could stop the spread offense of WVU with all that speed. I think it would be high scoring and very exciting to watch.
I think a matchup between the USC (that beat Illinois) the WVa (that beat Oklahoma) would be a classic. A matchup between the USC (that lost to Stanford) and the WVa (that lost to Pitt) would be uglier than a sack full of wet turkey droppings. To call Georgia a juggernaut is uphauling. :hihi:
