right, so why should drugs be illegal? you and i, we dont want to do drugs. i know i am scared of hard drugs. i am not scared of laws at all. my decisions about drugs are not related to laws. so why make drugs illegal? it just means a zillion extra people in jail, a zillion extra tax dollars spent.
Tobacco (arguably the most addictive substance on earth), and Alcohol kill roughly 600,000 people annually... Marijuana has no bodies attached to it's use. Tell me where the real evil lurks.
SF makes his argument on the current "legality" of certain drugs. Just change illegal to legal and he can't make the argument anymore.
The proper role of government is not to protect people from their own self-destructive choices. Jailing someone for putting a drug in his body would be like jailing someone after an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
do you think that prohibition made alcohol less abused? no way dude, it was party time with speakeasies and wild drinking and sluts and partying and crime and shootings and drunken nonsense.
i dunno dude, it certainly ruins lives by the truckload. i dunno why it is any less dangerous than heroin or coke or whatever. i have known some true alcoholics that were absolutely ruined by alcohol, they would end up literally facedown in the street, fired from their jobs, with no friends or money, and bruised and bloodied from falling on their heads.
i dunno that to be true, but it may be. but my point remains, the illegality isnt stopping anyone from doing drugs. people who do not do drugs are not thinking "well dadgummit if only crack was legal i would give it a try". making drugs illegal doesnt stop anyone from doing anything. it just piles on legal problems in addition to their addiction problems.
