I agree, in hindsight. But I wasn't interested in the poll, I added it at the last second (and did so in a very half-ass nature). All I was interested in knowing if anyone here was a big fan of an NFL football team, and if so, what team that was. The way I see it is, if anyone was a big fan of an NFL football team, they'd love to say something about it (just like any of us here on TF, if we were active on website not devoted to LSU sports, would love to talk about how much we loved LSU if someone on that forum asked "What is your favorite NCAA football team?"). So far, all I have learned in this thread is that big fans of a specific NFL team include: Saints (DarkHornet, Cajun Sensation) Cowboys (clair, TigerSnarl) Chiefs (stegaman) Redskins (KTeamLSU) So far, I figure no one else is a big fan of a specific NFL team, or they'd say something about it. As for myself, I've never really cared for the NFL (I rarely watch NFL games on Sunday, and I rarely watch the Superbowl), but I have never in my life wished that any team would do better than the Saints. Also, although I have followed the situation of the Saints for decades, I have never had high expectations of any Saints team... until this year (which I think is, on paper, at least, the best team the Saints have ever put together... although I still feel they only have a slim chance of ever making it to the Superbowl). At work, I was asking all my co-workers that love sports about this: one guy was a Bears fan, one guy was a fellow Saints fan that teased me for ever getting excited about the Saints because they will always let us down, but the rest of agreed with me that the Saints currently have the best team they have ever put together in history. It's kinda of surprising to me that on all the recent Saints-related discussion on here, that the only people I've seen who seem to be somewhat excited in any way about the Saints this year are DarkHornet and Cajun Sensation (who have also been the only people in this thread to claim they are big Saints fans).
Clair, I completely agree that JJ has more rings than the previous owners. The cowboys are 3 for 3 under him, and 2 for 5 (i think) under the other owners. Pacman's Criminal History... Pleading no contest and having a judge give probation means that he is convicted. There are at least 2 instances in the list where a Judge gave him probation so there are 2 convictions right there. TO has not committed a crime that i am aware of, I just think he is a no-good jacka$$.
(please forgive i am trying to remember all this and i have young-heimers.) When Jerry bought the cowboys i completely agree, they were horrible. I agree that they needed a change at the top with required that Tom Landry be let go and a new direction found. I just found the way that JJ let Landry go without the respect that he deserved. We could see it coming, but officially the firing was very quick. From what i remember, it was a bit of "you're fired, get the hell out old man. And don't come back." That is pretty much it. Its just a personal thing, but i have hated JJ from way back then. I do give him credit for not trying to make the city pay for the new stadium he is building, but he also loses a lot of points by continually ignoring the criminal problems of his players.
You can't have a poll for favorite team and allow people to vote for more than 1. That's just wrong...One favorite team...NO MORE! OK, I feel better. I hate 31 teams. Without naming them all, I'll just say the Cowboys aren't one of them.
Hey, don't feel bad. It was almost 20 years ago!! And your answer circles around what everyone else has given me over the years. A couple people even suggested a 'retirement ceremony'. But the public would have known that he was being fired. IMO, Tom would have never stood for that. Tom did come back 4 years later to be inducted in the Ring of Honor. I agree that it could have been handled better. But Jerry didn't do anything publicly to insult Tom despite the media's inferences. Probably no good way to fire a legend like Landry and have people like you
I went to my first Saints game in 1968. We had season tickets for the Saints from '69 to '76. I was there when....Dempsey kicked the field goal, Manning beat the Rams, the 22:00 booing delay of game, Falcons 62, Saints 7, the first game in the 'Dome, the first playoff game, the first playoff victory. I have never worn a paper bag on my head, except for one Halloween in college when I dressed as the Unknown Comic. I bleed black and gold. I also like when my wife puts me in handcuffs.:hihi:
